Inventory tracking

Is there a way to set up inventory on a store with tracking and not have it show or interfere with store operation? Still allow customers to order without regard to inventory level. I don't want inventory messages to show. I want to check it out thoroughly prior to going live?

Yes, just set the Prevent Ordering out of Stock products to false and remove the template code that displays inventory status.

If you are just looking to test out the functionality, you could ask your host to create a dev store for you and then test it there.

I just stumbled on this post. it's a couple of years old but it may still be relevant. I want to do the exact same thing. Allow customers to still purchase out of stock products while tracking the inventory including having email notifications sent out for out of stock products. Just wondering where you would set the "Prevent Ordering out of Stock products to false" that Bruce mentions. Can't find it.

There's a check mark that says something like Track Out Of Stock, uncheck that. It'll just keep a tally then.

Keep in mind many Merchant Account providers have restrictions as to charging customer's credit card on items not in stock and/or until item is shipped.

Can inventory tracking work with Ebay and Amazon stores? If you sell out in 1 place (say Miva) can Miva Inventory make the parts on Ebay and Amazon inactive?

That's the idea and it mostly works, but there is currently a bug that causes that to not always happen. It'll be fixed in 9.6.
