Using UPS and USPS together limitation

I was wondering if MIVA still has not been allowed for us to use both UPS and USPS together? If not do we have a time-line for this being implemented? If we still cannot use these 2 services together if someone has a workaround other than paying an extra monthly fee for a module that would be helpful. It's getting expensive paying extra for modules that cost monthly.

It's a legal roadblock with UPS, not a technical one with Miva, but UPS does provide exceptions.

Have you asked your UPS rep for an exemption? Email me if you need more guidance.

Re: Using UPS and USPS together limitation

Someone else ??? mentioned using the FedEx rates module and then just renaming it as "ground shipping" or "ThreeDay" shipping, since the FedEx rates were close enough to the UPS rates...

I don't know if this is feasible for you or not. But it was at least some form of Out Of The Box thinking...

      Hope this helps.

Fed Ex is some miles for us to get to whereas UPS is just up the street:)

But having said that can Fed Ex and USPS work at the same time easily in MIVA?

My understanding is that they use the FedEx live rate server to calculate the shipping charge and then uses UPS to actually ship the packages.

Re: Using UPS and USPS together limitation

Oh thats way too much of a hassle and would confuse customers. Our system is automated as well and all packing slips and tracking are digitally automated and that would kill the simplicity of how we have it setup.

Can you have both the MIVA USPS and UPS modules running at the same time? We already are using the Viking Coding Module for UPS but don't need all the extra bells and whistles and that added monthly expense is what is really killing it for me.

You can have both UPS and USPS from Miva running at the same time as long as UPS gives you a legal waiver.

Re: Using UPS and USPS together limitation

Our Fedex and UPS contract rates are usually very close. Per Rick's suggestion a while back we used the Amazon approach, wherein we renamed our shipping options using the "Display as" function to Ground - Home, Ground - Commercial, 2-Day, etc... Then we mapped the Fedex pricing to them and they coexist with USPS on our site. See what we did in the table below. If you want to see it in action you can go partway through checkout on our site www.preparesmart.com. BTW, our Terms and Conditions allow us to ship via the carrier of our choice.

Is an Endicia or Stamps.com account required to use the USPS Module or can we just get a USPS account?

No, in fact they won't work with the USPS module. However USPS only prints labels but no postage (go figure). If you want to print actual postage, then you need to activate the Endicia module and have an Endicia account.
                      Thanks,

The $13 monthly fee for an endicia account is so worth it... even for me, and I am notoriously frugal...

If you ship via USPS, then I highly recommend it.

Even if you are doing NON Miva merchant postage / shipping, Endicia has a little desktop app (called Dazzle) which allows you to print out first class mail postage (you can't use the USPS website to print first class mail, as far as I remember, so you would either need stamps or a trip to the post office).

Rick, just to be clear... it's either the USPS module or Endicia but not both?

                            Jim,

I think you're confusing issues here. The quote you mentioned above is a legal restriction with UPS and not USPS (nor Endicia).

You can use both the USPS module to get rates displayed in your store and the Endicia module to print labels with postage.
                            Thanks,
