Handling charge for a specific product

My probable solution is likely the misc fee module. But I wanted to check first.

The built in Handling Charge works. I have it configured for a quantity range. Seems to work only for total quantity in basket but I can't restrict it to one specific product. Is that the case? Am I missing anything in configuration?

I did find a clumsy way to achieve this. Using a Add Product Price group. Defining a handling charge as a product is awkward. I also think there might be a bug. If you want to delete the qualifying product from the basket, the Added product doesn't automatically get deleted. I've decided this is the wrong direction to go.

I did look at a price group option with "discount shipping." But the interface didn't seem to allow me to add. Of course that makes sense because it's the discount field where the function is intending to reduce the shipping.

For future: I did have a need for it to handle multiple ranges for a different fee. ie: 1-4 is $15.00 5-8 $30.00 etc.

The current handling charge functionality is global and not product specific. The Misc Fee module is probably going to be the best solution here.

With the Add On Product, if you remove the qualifying product, it does not automatically remove the add on product, just reprices it. That is how it is intended to work.

      Thanks Brennan on both answers.

Will there be a more specific method for handling charges in a future release?

Also, maybe an option to have the addon product removed, say if that product is inactive? I suggest that because in my work around scenario, this product would never be a sale item.
