Multiple Domains / One Miva Installation

I know this has been talked about before, but the most recent topic I can find seems to be from 2010.

I'm wondering if there is a practical way to have one Miva back-end installation run 2,3 or even more domain names. The idea is that each domain name could have it's own look and feel (ie: different readytheme's), and that each domain could also individually control whether or not specific categories or products were visible on said domain.

Unless I'm just thinking about this problem from the wrong angle... but, essentially the idea is to try and save the work/hassle of having to duplicate content across multiple websites.

This feature is in development and was discussed at the MivaCon conference last month. I believe Rick said the goal was to have that feature out by next conference (it's a huge development project) but he'll correct me if I'm wrong on that timeline. There have been Miva Merchant users who have accomplished this with some very extensive customization, but my understanding is it took a lot of custom code, time and money, so there's not really a good solution to this issue currently.

It can be done today with custom coding and one URL for checkout (so regardless of URL they come in from, they go through the a standard checkout URL of the "main" site). Otherwise it'll likely be in either 9.7 or 10.
      Thanks,

Over the next year we are planning to do this. Our solution isn't on the Miva Merchant side. It is all backend that feeds the sites. It is the master copy of the products and the associated data.

We use Order Manager on the backend using MS-SQL and have added tons of extra product data in the "Inventory" (Order Manager store all product data there). Some of that data is for expanded descriptions, google products, many other feeds, and internal sorting and management.

I have added fields for "Site1Show", "Site2Show", "Site3Show". This now allows a filer to be applied to create a subset of products for each site.

So our main site will have ALL products. The other sites will just have a subset designated by the flagged fields above.

To keep everything updated we use the Miva Merchant XML provisioning to push updates to the store(s). Like I said we are only using one site now but it is all setup to use as many sites as we need. Plus using the XML provisioning we can do large product uploads into a new store easily.

If it's going to be 9.7 or even 10 - then it's going to be a "while" - 9.6 is the next version due out

I just posted this elsewhere, but will ask here too. Miva already sells store licenses. each store has its unique domain settings and store settings. Can I simply use different domains in each store? What else would be needed to get this to work? (i.e. ssl cert for each domain, .htaccess updates, dns record, etc.)
