Combine Miva Shipping Methods

Setting up a new site. We have some products that have limited shipping methods. Right now if I add two products that are each limited to one unique shipping method the cart won't return a shipping option. I either have to have people order those items separately or combine them into a single total. I am wrestling with the 3rd party product we used on the old site but I'd like to use Miva's native functionality when possible.

Note: It might be cool to have an option to show customer breakdown

i.e.

These items 1,2, and 3 will arrive in one shipment shipping cost $50

This item 4 will be shipped by itself shipping cost $25

Total shipping $75

I think Amazon does something like this.

Right now that is not something we support. However you can get something similar to what you are looking for using this service:

You can create custom shipping methods which are a combination of 2 or more other rates/methods.

We are using them now on the old site. Shipping problems are a frequent headache - not necessarily because of them but it isn't always easy to figure out if it's FedEX or them or Miva. I hoped to use Miva's native functionality for as much of the shipping as possible - certainly all the quantity and price table stuff that isn't making a call to the shippers API as a way to simplify. We'll keep using Advanced Shipping Manager for those few items that require it. I just need to bullet proof the shipping.

I wrote a Shipping Manager module for a client some years ago, that does exactly what you describe. It can apply different shipping methods to different products in a single basket, compute the prices for each one, and display the various shipping costs to the customer. The client has been using it since 2009, so it's well tested. Drop me a line if you're interested.
