    Inventory management recommendations?

I've got a Miva 9 store, and as my business has grown I have faced challenges with inventory management.

The issue is that I build custom "built to order" products, and therefore the inventory I need to track is of the components used to build the products, and not the actual products sold.

It does not seem as if the inventory management built into MIVA will help here. Does anyone have any recommendations on 3rd party software that integrates with MIVA, that won't break the bank (since we are a small business).

    Thanks in advance.

It is doable. It's taken me a couple of years to really get my head wrapped around it, but after managing a store that has had million variants generated in one sitting I think I've got it. In your case, you need to build kits. You still have to start off with some sort of base product (that you don't have to track the inventory for). With that base product, you will create the attributes for all the items that can be added. After you get all the attributes, you'll now need to associate your parts to the attributes. This is done in the Inventory Kit Builder. After you get all the products associated, next you will click the Generate Variants (in the Inventory Kit Builder - NOT the Inventory Variants). I've affectionately learned to call this process "the glue that binds" everything together. After the generate process is complete you will be able to see the inventory levels of all the parts.

Depending on the specifics, you should be able to use kits/inventory variants in Miva to track the individual components. The one downside at the moment is that Miva removes inventory when items are added to the basket, which can make tracking inventory a little interesting in some cases, however that is about to change with the release of Miva 9.6.

Here is a video that might help.
This is a tutorial on building kits in Miva Merchant 5.5 PR7, where the sub products of the kit only have one attribute.
