Restrict the sale of a item to an order minimum

Is there a way to restrict the sale of an item to an order minimum. I need the add to cart button of the item to be grayed out until the minimum amount has been met. I also need the item to be removed from the basket if the basket total falls below the minimum order amount if the customer removes items from the basket.

Is that minimum a number of items, or a number of dollars? If it's the latter, this could be tricky, but still feasible. Are we talking about some kind of "bonus" product, which the customer can only buy if the other items in their basket have some minimum dollar value?

It's a dollar amount. Yes, it's bonus/add-on product. After further thought, I may need to go the upsell route.

Not necessarily. I think my "Modulator" utility will do that job; we've used that before to help a couple of your clients with this kind of specialized requirement. You can email me if you want to discuss it in detail.

        Thanks --

Yes, your "Modulator" utility has been a huge plus! I may be talking to you about the keep the store open but not be able to purchase function for another store that is getting ready to go on an extended vacation. She usually puts the store into Maintenance Mode every year, but this year she'd like people to be able to browse while she's away.

Yes, Modulator can be used to create a "window shopping mode" -- you can look, but you can't buy -- that can be turned on and off with a few clicks.

            Thanks --

I need to revisit this - but instead this time it's a minimum quantity of the product. It would be applied per product.
