Apple Pay in the Global Mini-Basket

I'm trying to add the Apple Pay button to the Global Mini-Basket. I'm thinking that the

<mvt:item name="applepay" param="head" />

needs to go into the User Interface > HEAD Tag Content and not into the individual Page templates? The docs are not specific regarding the placement of the tag.

Correct, you would put that item globally and then add the button tag to the mini-basket. One issue we've seen currently is that the JS is referencing the button by id so having it globally in addition to specific pages causes just the global version to show. We're looking at a solution and I'll post it here.

Yeah, I tried that and it didn't work...do I need to also assign the item to every page in the store?

And that would explain why I cannot control which button appears in the mini-basket? There needs to be some sort of method to control it.
