After upgrading form http to https my site stopped generating SEO friendly URLS

After upgrading from http to https my site stopped generating SEO friendly URLS

now my URLS look like this

    https://www.geographicus.com/mm5/mer...ites-usgs-1930

    rather than like this

    http://www.geographicus.com/P/Antiqu...orth-hall-1835

    What happened?

I also, I must add, updated the .htaccess file automatically from within the Miva Merchant URI Management .htaccess tab. Perhaps this changed something critical regarding SEO Friendly LInks?

Our URLS are pretty well established with google, so this is a little bit of a problem.

I also switched to miva's new URI management, this must be what did it.

The new URI Management is what changed your links. It did the same for both my stores.

Yes, I figured, the trick is how to fix it. I have logged a Miva support ticket, but I haven not heard much from them (then again, it is Sunday). I hope I can correct the issue before google drops me in the rankings.

If you have switched to URI management at the same time, you need to create the URIs on each of your products for the new SEO-friendly URIs to be generated by the store. On each of your products in the admin, look at the URI tab. You can set a canonical value for each. This is what will show in the UI of your site. You can also set up 301 redirects for your old URIs for each of those products so you won't lose SEO mojo.

Interesting you are posting about this right now. I'm working on this exact thing today....

The URIs are confusing. Do I need to regenerate the URIS every time I upload new inventory?
