Use same tax percentage for all states

Our store ships from California and we want to charge 8.5% for everyone who buys (retail customers).

It doesn't seem like there's an easy way to do this unless I'm overlooking something.

    Help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello,

You would need to setup 'State Based Sales Tax' and then add an entry for each state.

Also why would you do that? I'm not providing tax advice, but as I personally understand it you're supposed to only collect CA sales tax on things shipped within CA.
      Thanks,

Thanks for the replies.Ended up doing each individually.

As far as why, I think you may be right. I was just going by what one of the people in the office said. We are probably going to change to the specific state sales tax.

Since I have you, is that a way I can make our 'wholesale' price group not have any tax applied to their order? I'd rather not have to purchase a module.

We will be adding this nativly into the core of miva where you can restrict tax on a per price group / availability group basis but currently you need this module:

Like Rick, I'm not an expert and am not providing sales tax advice. But I would suggest you do some research into this and speak with a professional before you implement something.

Currently you are only required to collect and pay sales tax on sales that ship to states where you have "nexus"--some sort of presence. Determining where you have nexus can be complicated. And I don't know anything about California's sales tax rules, but in New York (my state) sales tax rates are set at the county level. So we need to charge the appropriate rate for the address to which an order ships. We can't use one rate for the whole state. We use Avalara to manage this process. They have a module available for Miva, and I can recommend their service.
