Google Analytics Gone Wild

The Google analytics team has listened to the community and is releasing 7 highly desired features that previously were only available via an enterprise class web analytics vendor after paying a pretty penny. A release date has not been publicly announced but here is a list of the features:

  • Advanced Segmentation
  • Custom Reports
  • Data Export API
  • Adsense Integration
  • Motion Charts
  • Updated User Interface
  • Updated Administrative Interface

All of these with the exception of the Adsense integration are big wins for any ecommerce site using Google Analytics; below are videos showing three of the new features in action.

Google Analytics Advanced Segmentation Video

<embed src=“https://www.youtube.com/v/wu8YzF0AM14&hl=en&fs=1” type=“application/x-shockwave-flash” allowfullscreen=“true” width=“425” height=“344”></embed></object>

Properly segmenting to gain insight is what separates good analysts from great analysts and now you will be able to do some truly amazing analysis on your web data.

Google Analytics Custom Reports Video

<object width=“425” height=“344”><param name=“movie” value=“https://www.youtube.com/v/NGgl137x3Yw&hl=en&fs=1”>

<embed src=“https://www.youtube.com/v/NGgl137x3Yw&hl=en&fs=1” type=“application/x-shockwave-flash” allowfullscreen=“true” width=“425” height=“344”></embed></object>

Finally you will be able to get summary data you need without all the extra fluff with the ability to make a report card to track progress that is automatic instead of manual. I sure hope they include filtering with the advanced segmentation in custom reports.

Google Analytics Motion Charts Video

The last time I saw something this cool for analyzing data was Visual Site which came with a six figure annual price tag; so yeah this is cool stuff.

There is a fourth video on Adsense integration you can watch on YouTube but since most ecommerce sites do not show Adsense ads we did not include it here. You can read the full post from Google on their blog. How do you plan on using the new features to optimize your online store? Share your ideas by posting a comment below.
