Re: Bootstrap Framework for Miva Merchant - Support Thread

Weird! FYI We are using the latest bootstrap too and don't have this issue. It has to be some change in the CSS or the custom.js contains something I didn't see.

Did you try to replace the bootstrap.css with the original file?

BTW Talked already to Scott :) he called me.

Yea, he isn't having a good day. I'm just trying to troubleshoot this for him. Someone else created the site.

He told me the entire story and I'll put an hour in for free if I can't find the culprit. Let's hope the phrase "no good deed goes unpunished" will not hit me <grin>

                So what the issue?

Bootstrap still looks odd in IE on WindowsXP and on some iPhones but the links are clickable now which was the big issue.

                Thanks!

Re: Bootstrap Framework for Miva Merchant - Support Thread

I handed it over to one of my guys (Brian) and he told me that there was another JavaScript file which messed it up. The design looks odd in some cases because the guy who built the site replaced parts of the bootstrap framework and added his own code which is causing some issues.

Re: Bootstrap Framework for Miva Merchant - Support Thread

I've been following this back and forth. What Andreas found IMO is or could be a critical subject. This may be a good time for Brennan or Matt Zimmerman to chime in with some thoughts about Miva Bootstrap best practices. One question this might answer is what parts of Bootstrap should not be edited if at all possible? Based on what Andreas found, it appears bootstrap.css should not be changed for nearly all Miva Bootstrap sites. Are there other parts of Miva Bootstrap that should be handled with care?

Re: Bootstrap Framework for Miva Merchant - Support Thread

Hey Scott, nice seeing you at the MMConf!

You are right about altering bootstrap.css although in Scott's case (yes, his name is Scott too) it was a JavaScript file for addthis which broke the site for Safari and a couple other (minor) browsers.

Best practice is as always; know what you are doing and set restore points in case something goes wrong. Reading the bootstrap docs is a great plus. I know some of us don't like reading docs <grin>

So what we learned from previous cases is:

                      - Be careful adding JavaScript libraries
                      - don't alter bootstrap.css (you wouldn't alter jQuery, wouldn't you?)

Everybody else who had problems start adding :)

Re: Bootstrap Framework for Miva Merchant - Support Thread

Man, I'm over my head (again).
My product images and thumbnails were not showing up - then Brennan went under the hood and they were showing up.
I added more products to my dev site, and ... the images are not showing up again, only in category (assigned products), not under individual products.
Brennan had changed the images uploaded thru "additional images" so that one would have the "main image" type selected, and that worked for a while. As I implied, that was then, this is now.
Any ideas? I love bootstrap but it seems that even miva 2 was easier to figure out (Read: keep from screwing up)

How does one update current Framework with new one? I tried and received a message that it already exists.
                          Thank you, Bill Davis

The framework got the same name and you have to remove the previous one. In case you applied any changes be aware that you lose them by selecting the new framework. Best save the changes as a new framework. This way you can select it and get back to it.

Did a fresh install of the bootstrap framework a few days ago and it seems that the Global Footer didn't come along for the ride. Since I haven't started doing any tweaking, should I just try again? I first noticed the problem when the dropdown menus weren't working. I quickly found the missing js links and added them but noticed something still wasn't right. So I copied the whole Global Footer from another site and got the most interesting error:

At 66:43-66:46 - syntax error, unexpected IDENTIFIER

                                Hey Leslie -

If you run into this issue it means your are not on the latest engine. The framework uses the mvt:eval code in the global footer to out put the current year. If you are not on the 5.18 or higher engine, this tag will not compile so the global footer does not get updated when uploading the framework.

Try getting the engine updated first, then re-apply the framework which should fix the issue.
