Multiple shipping addresses in one order

    I am dreaming of multiple
shipping addresses in one order! We do dropshipping. It would make my vendors really really happy to have this feature. Also it would be great for holiday shipping in our regular retail sites too.

This would be so great for a gift basket site (too), be able to place all your orders at one time, get which baskets get shipped where...dream, dream, dream...

Food for thought. There are multiple pieces to this. I have been asked to write a module with this type of feature multiple times.

When discussing the part of the shipping method offers to the customer for shipping to multiple addresses, technically, it isn't a huge issue. Attributes or custom order fields or combination would likely be the vehicle. Getting the prices for each shipping destination might be a trick also but could be done. However, presenting the pricing sticker shock for the shipping charges has been a show-stopper.

In my experience, I think there is likely a limited use case where shipping charges are minimal or are not an issue.

There also are other logistics that could have an effect on development and store owner usage. Example: When using tracking, you need to be able to supply multiple tracking codes and links, notes, special shipping instructions for the same order ID. Some of these pieces might not work directly within Miva's table and field structure or maybe even the API, so new functions and/or API will likely need to be worked around in some fashion.

I may be stating some obvious circumstances and some things in this environment may have changed since the last time I was approached for this development. I am positive there would still be more than meets the eye to this functionality.

I was pondering this as well, and maybe the better methodology would be to take a basket, say with three items, then find a way to reuse the data provided for billing and payment and create three separate orders from it. If one was using Miva Pay, this might be feasible. You'd take the billing info and payment info first, then for each basket item, let the user indicate a different shipping address. If any are selected as a different shipping address...process them through OSEL individually. They should only need to go to OSEL, and have the stored billing information populated underneath. After selecting "Order" on OSEL, it would go back to any remaining items for shipping.

This would of course, be a completely different ordering sequence from the original, but I don't see why it wouldn't work and could be done currently. Personally, I'd do this has a completely new series of templates.

          Couple thoughts:

          1. I think eMedia/Viking Coders still has Address SuperMod for this, I'd hit up Alex for details.

          2. Amazon treats it Bruce's way and I suspect there's a well thought out logic for that, that's how I'd be inclined to implement it.
