    Who's There - Temporary Lock

This may or may not have been posted here before, I know it's come up in conversations at the conferences and Laura suggested I post here

It would be great to know if someone else (the user name) is working in the admin along with some sort of warning that an update is about to overwrite something that someone else is working on. Or to be able to place a temporary lock on the field being worked in.

We're solving this problem a different way in Miva 10. There is a new concept of "template branches" so each developer can work in their own version of the templates. Then when you ready to push changes live, can you do it via the branch merge process.

This avoids multiple people working on the same template at the same time.

That's cool, but I'd still like to see who else is in the admin. I know there is vague "Information" that shows Session Users. I'd still like to see User Names.

Also, will these template branches work with all Frameworks?

We've also looked doing a history of actions across all users. What do you want to do with the information? That may be useful in helping us understand what the needs are here.

So, if two developers are both working on the same template, they'd see only the changes they have made?

As for why we want to know who's working where, consider the simple case where two developers see a problem in a template. I would be useful to allow the two developers to coordinate on who's going to fix it instead of both spending time fixing the same thing.
