Load/Render Issues In Chrome In Admin

I started experiencing some admin render issues, especially on pages that had lots of text fields to load right before 10 launched. I was told this was a Chrome bug and to try Firefox, no issues in Firefox. Miva 10 came out, I started having the issues in Firefox and now back to Chrome, having them worse in chrome.

WHAT I SEE, first in the admin, first few clicks, all is good. Hit the "user interface settings" page, and BOOM, will take 20 seconds to load. Almost as if it's sapping my browsers memory totally, and at times if I have the front end open also, and switch there to click around as I wait, that entire screen will go blank at times also. All open windows for that domain will go white until the one that is hanging loads up.

Has anyone else had these issues? I can't be the only one, although I'm probably in more admins than most people these days haha. But EVERY site I'm accessing is having the same issue so something is up, just can't quite place it.

As a follow up, the same thing happens in FireFox, although not nearly as bad. Firefox numbers....

Category View In Admin = 5 seconds to load 5 categories
Product View In Admin = 6 seconds to load 8 products
Global Settings View In Admin = 11 seconds to load the page (the larger text fields like gloabl header & footer, category tree and navigation templates seem to be what's holding the load up).

I have tried with no browser extensions and have cleared browsers out totally, still happens.

try running the network sniffer in inspector when you open that...can you see a resource being delayed or is all just memory processes?

It seems to all start going south after my first save within Global Settings. The admin I was in just worked fine until I saved Smart Breadcrumbs (could have been anything on this page) and the thing that seemed to hang was... /mm5/json.mvc?Store_Code=koralkingdom&Function=HistoryL ist_Load

For instance. After that first save, now every page in the admin that I hit takes FOREVER to load. I don't know enough about the network sniffer to know what's what, but that Function=HistoryList_Load is always the thing that seems to finally fire after a long pause and then everything fills in behind it. I've confirmed on a few views now that seems to be what it's waiting for.

OK, now we may be getting somewhere Bruce. After watching network sniffer a bit, I decided, let's shut everything down EXCEPT the single window I'm working in. Now, I can't get it to replicate the slowness. So now I'm going through and I'm trying to "open things back up" that I had closed to see if I can isolate maybe a web app or piece of software that could be playing into this.

Odd thing is, now I've tried 3 admins and can't replicate the issue, all is working famously, and 20 minutes ago, and through this week, I've barely been able to get work done in an efficient manner because this issue was constant. It's possible I've stumbled into proof that "some other app/window/software" is causing the issue, and oddly enough, only within Miva.

I'll follow up letting others know what I find (I have a ticket open as well), but it would seem that I must be the only person having the issue, therefore, it is obviously my issue haha. Just have to figure out what's up.

NOPE, there it goes. After making a bunch of template updates, all was ok. I went into Catalog, assigned 4 products to a category and BOOM, next time I loaded global settings, the crazy delay, and what popped up after the delay was that Function=History call.

One of our support tech people had the same problem (we've been trying to get this issue to replicate in a bunch of different environments with no success other than him). After a bunch of diagnosis, it turned out to be his "Netcraft Extension" extension (in Google Chrome). You mentioned in your second post that you disabled all the extensions though. Have you tried in a private browsing window? The HistoryList_Load function shouldn't be a factor in loading, as it is a separate ajax call and nothing relies on it (except it's own button/behavior). It is triggered on page load once the history entry is inserted. Open up your developer tools (you can right+click anywhere on the page and click Inspect Element) then switch to the network tools tab and filter by XHR requests. Refresh the page that it blowing up. Under the waterfall section, are any of the requests taking a long time? (the green bar will be wider). Switch to "All" and see if anything there seems to be taking a long time. Given the symptoms (I watched the screencast you sent to support showing what you're seeing), I don't think an XHR request would play any roll in the behavior you're seeing. This feels more related to the Blink bug I filed against webkit/chromium not too long ago. With that one, though, it was limited to windows opened via another window. I know Chrome has some weird linking that happens with tabs opened from other tabs, so the fact that your view store (which I'm assuming was probably opened via the button in the admin tab) is having lagging issues as well doesn't surprise me. But you said FireFox also has a similar problem? And they don't use webkit at all... What versions of FireFox and Chrome are you on? It really just seems like your render loops are being heavily limited for some reason (as can be seen by the reeeeeally slow fade in on the page header. Another thing you can do is run a performance test in the developer tools. Switch to the "Performance" tab, click the little circle on the left to start recording, then reload the global settings or whatever page is having issues. As soon as it successfully loads, stop the recording. You should then be able to "Save" the profile by clicking the down arrow icon. You can PM me the file, or send it to support and have them send it to me. Not sure if it'll reveal anything, but I can at least compare it to a profile run on my server and see if anything stands out.

Also, just as an afterthought, you're not getting any JavaScript errors logged, right?

Oddly, after having this happen for weeks, I haven't had it happen again over the last 4 or 5 working days. Maybe more. I did have a couple of Windows updates go through and chrome may have updated on me also. As soon as I can replicate it again, I'll let you know. I'm hoping to hell it was something dumb on my side and that it's resolved haha.

Any progress on this? I can't use the miva 10 admin in chrome, it can take up to 30 seconds for a page to load. It seems to be loading the admin ui css multiple times, every 7 or so seconds.

This happens with or without extensions. It is something in Chrome because when I use Brave the admin is fast. However I like to use Chrome Canary for development because of the various dev plugins I have installed so I hope this issue can be worked out.

No progress so far. We've been unable to replicate this issue at all, and until you posted, only aarcmedia had even seen the issue (except for something we thought might have been the same, but it was a plugin and if you're not using any plugins/extensions, then it's not likely to be that). If you can, look at post #7 and try and get some logged profile data from the browser that we can look at. You can send it to support via a ticket, or PM it to me.

                    Specifically (from #7):

What version Chrome are you on? [...] Another thing you can do is run a performance test in the developer tools. Switch to the "Performance" tab, click the little circle on the left to start recording, then reload the global settings or whatever page is having issues. If it is truly a Chrome bug, which... seems likely, I'm not sure that there is much we can actually do about it, other than file it against chromium if they don't already know about it. They've been doing a lot of performance related stuff lately that, unfortunately, has led to at least one pretty annoying issue we've come across lately. Have you tried the stable release of Chrome (ie, not Canary?) And does it have the same problem?

My issues are still happening, but on and off. Just did a screen record of a full freeze up. I hit update, and every window that had Miva in it froze. I had 2 browsers with about 5 or 6 tabs each loaded, 4 of them Miva, and only the 4 Miva tabs became non-responsive.

I'm still trying to isolate what I'm doing at the time of freeze up to see if there is something specific I'm coming across that causes the issues to start, but there is really no method to the madness.

And for me, it happens to a smaller degree in Firefox also, not quite as bad, but still annoying enough. I'm not complaining haha, I'm just trying to share examples of what I'm seeing.

Scott, have you figured this out yet? Still doing it to me. There is virtually no method to the madness and the only scenario in which I have any issues is while in Miva admins. I'm going nuts haha. For me, while it's presenting in the admin tab, it also freezes up and usually "blanks out" all other tabs tied to the same domain.

I switched to Brave browser and everything was fine after that. I have a suspicion it's a chrome plugin but I wasn't able to figure out which one.

I'm late jumping in on this but after getting multiple errors in the admin (and even having Miva Support look at the issues), it was suggested that I use Incognito/Private windows. That seems to have stopped the issues I and some of the storeowners I work with had, but it was mentioned - "why should I have to do this?"

Scott, you use LastPass, Zoom or Asana haha? Leslie, you? I'm part wondering if it's when I have a boat load of windows open? Some forums I've found have mentioned full restarts clean it up for days at a time haha? It's a mystery. A very maddening mystery.
