    Branch Indicator in Admin

I'm migrating my site from Suivant to Shadows and using the branches feature heavily. I'm spending a lot of time in the development branch updating product descriptions, etc. But I still have to maintain our live site. I find myself wishing there was a some indicator to let me know which branch I'm currently working in. As it is, I have to click into the User Interface to check if I am working in a development branch or the live branch. Am I missing an easier way to do this or is this something that could be added in a future update?

Keep in mind, that branches don't impact products so if you change a product description, its global across all branches including the live site. We have plans to add versioning for products in the future.

But when you're in User Interface in the admin, the branch is always visible in the left menu. When viewing the website, there is a widget that displays in the left corner showing you what branch you're on as well.

Will there be a way to make sure that when installing a ReadyTheme to a branch that it doesn't add the extra categories/products that come with the theme?

OK. I see. So whenever I'm editing something that is branch specific I can see the branch indicator and when I'm editing products, I don't see it because that type of edit effects all branches. Got it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Is there a way to check what branch I'm in without clicking away from a field I'm editing in admin?

In admin the branch indicator should show in the left menu. Where are you in admin where you're not seeing it?

                Hi Brennan,

I'm editing product information. I'm comparing production and dev views, and we will be pushing dev change to prod. I just need to tell if I'm editing in the right branch.

Branches only impact the User Interface. Things like product data and category data are not branch specific and global across all branches. So if you make a change to product description it will impact all branches. This is why we don't show branch details anywhere other then under User Interface.

                    Hi Brennan,

Understood. So, in order to verify which branch I'm in I would have to exit what I'm editing (in category/products) and click on User Interface? Correct?

A better way to look at it is, if you editing anything out side of User Interface (products, customers, global settings, etc) it is not branch specific and will apply across all branches.
