    Free Shipping Price Group

Using the Shipping Discount (Discounted Products Only) price group and it works great. The thing is that if a order contains products that qualify for several shipping modes (priority mail, ups, etc...) and the order qualifies for free shipping then on the Checkout: Shipping/Payment Selection page it returns many free shipping options Is there anything to just show one free shipping option?

I assume that on a normal order, without this price group, when there are several shipping methods the selection screen shows:
    UPS Shipping....................$x.xx
    USPS Priority Mail............$x.xx
    USPS Next Day Air............$x.xx
    etc.....

So within the Price Group, under the Discount Settings > Method Selection are you using the "Replace Shipping Method Name with" rather than "Append xxxx to Shipping Method Name"?

If the method is being replaced, then all of the Shipping Methods that are listed to change in price (Discount Settings > Method Discounts) will have that text only instead of the type of shipping.

I'm not sure if there is a simple way to display only 1 Free Shipping method and you as a company decides how it is sent during fulfillment. The advantage of Appending Free Shipping to the end of the Method would allow a customer to choose a carrier that maybe works better in their area. Of course with proper website terms, you'd still have the final say as to how an order will be shipped.

MGWben Thank you for your reply. We are using the "Replace Shipping Method Name with" . Just has you referred , I did not want a shopper to select UPS Ground Free Shipping, when Priority Mail would be much cheaper. It just takes all the inevitable questions out of the equation.

I figured as much when it came to those "inevitable questions" a customer may pose after receiving their order via a service different than what they selected.

        Hmm...
I though perhaps a new Free Shipping shipping method could be defined but I do not believe that the Price Group would be able to activate the new method while at the same time keeping it hidden in all other situations.

The only sure method I could see is altering how the OSEL page works when loading the Shipping Methods that are available for the order. As the page loops thru the array of shippingmethods, if any method has the &mvt:method:name; equal to "Free Ground Shipping" and, with use of a counter, has not been writen to the page yet: display that method. As the loop for shippingmethods continues, if the Free Shipping has already been written to the page don't allow any additional Free Shipping methods to be written.

Another less-invasive method could be to use the Append selection in the Price Group as mentioned before and add a note at the top of the OSEL if a shippingmethod has the name of "Free Ground Shipping" stating that shipping carrier/method is subject to change.

Use the "Exclude Method" features in the actual Free Shipping method you want to appear. This setting is at the bottom of the Shipping Settings modal so yea, its easy to miss. Just make all the other free shipping options "excluded".

Bruce, that makes sense. However, I did not have a actual Free Shipping method. The free shipping was controlled by the Shipping Discount (Discounted Products Only) price group. So if I understand your example I would have to create a new free shipping method, Exclude This Method Unless Permitted by Products, then apply the new free shipping method to those products that qualify for free shipping (about 1600). And mark all the other free shipping options "excluded"

I tested your method and it works. I just have to figure a quick way to apply the new free shipping method to those products.

I thought you had to assign the discount to an existing shipping method in the Price Group settings? (i have to admit, i'm not that much of an 'Admin' expert.)

That is correct. Am I missing something from your earlier response?

Can I circle back on this? How many methods did you set as "Free" in the Price Group you created? I'm almost wondering if you set all of them.

I did set them all as 100% discount. The free shipping is based on the discounted products assigned to that price group that meets the condition the basket subtotal is $75 or greater.

If the original question is why are you seeing so many Free Shipping choices, that is most likely it. "Usually" when you create a Free Shipping Price Group you just make one of your Shipping Methods as the 100% discount.

Leslie, thanks for your reply. Yes, I know why there are multiple free shipping choices. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see how I can just make one shipping method at the 100% discount. In the price group it lists all the shipping methods I have in the store. The only options are fixed and percent, so I assume each shipping method requires a discount. If there is something I'm missing here, I can't see it.

I usually make the cheapest shipping method the "free" one. I leave the other methods alone because, who knows, the customer may need it the next day and is willing to pay extra for it. You don't want to give away all your shipping methods, do you? Let the customer decide - maybe they want it free or maybe the next it the next day.

So, using the selected Free Shipping shipping method's settings box, you can exclude all other free shipping methods. (just scroll to the bottom).
