How do you use the Header/Footer?

For example, on the "Edit Page: Product Display" I want to insert something into the header. I enter my code. Hit update. Refresh my product page. Look at the page source. The added code is not there.

Is there a magic activation box I need to check? This seems real easy but ...

Did you add text to the header of a specific product or the header of the product template?

I added it to the "Product Display" template.
