To enable inventory at the attribute level:
1. Make sure inventory is turned on at the store level.
2. Go to your product, e.g. T-Shirt
3. Create attributes and options for Size and Color. When creating the attribute place a checkmark in the I column to the right of D and R. This I signifies that you'd like to track inventory on the variants created by this attribute.
4. You will NOT enable Inventory at the Master Product level (e.g. T-Shirt) [EDIT] You can do this if you choose for impacting your display before people choose a variant, however make sure you do not track low stock or out of stock on the master product when using Inventory Products.[/EDIT]
5. Now click on the Inventory Variants tab on your product
6. Click Auto-Generate on the right hand side of this screen. This will create "sub-products" that are derivative of the master product and attributes. These products WILL show up in your Products list but are not "Active". They are only used for the purpose of tracking Inventory, Price, Cost and Weight of each discrete Inventory Variant. During this step you can choose if the price of the variant is set by combining the price (or cost) of the attributes or if overridden by the value's set in the Sub Product. This allows for importing and exporting following our traditional protocols.
7. Play with the Attribute Filters on the Inventory Variants screen. This is the proper way to isolate a group of sub products and quickly set the inventory for that group. In our T-Shirt example there may be only 12 or 15 variants if you only have a few colors and few sizes, but the mathematical possibilities are such that filters are the most viable method for quickly drilling down and configuring inventory.
8. Once you've set your filters, click the Edit Inventory button just to the left of Auto Generate. You'll have an easy location to quickly set your current inventory count for each of these products.
9. By clicking on the Variant itself you can control: Price, Cost and Weight features as well as alter the sub product(s) tied to the variant.
If you've created a new store after upgrading to Beta 4 you won't need to do anything as all of the price and show/hide controls are built into the new CSSUI.
If you've upgraded from either Production or Beta 3, you'll need to make the template page changes manually to properly enable the new item "attributemachine" which controls dynamic show/hide and pricing based on the inventory variant information. See this post: http://extranet.mivamerchant.com/for...173#post110173 and follow any template code changes referenced to "attributemachine"
