So if I get a "Pre-install validation failed." stoppage, do I open a support ticket or is there a special source for fixing things I break?

Not that I am aware of. It's quite an undertaking on Matt & team's part to get it ready.

Since all the Ready Themes 2.0 stuff works with 9.7, we're doing them in concert.
            Thanks,

Can't wait to break it. Remind Matt of our conversations about it

Leslie Make sure you're installing the correct beta patch. There are old patches on the beta stream. You need to select the 9.0007-beta-1 patch.

On the Rich Text Editor, when I look at the Font Family select list it is appearing behind other fields.

Having the ability to select fonts that are not part of the design is IMHO not a good idea. Maybe it's OCD or maybe it's spending hours making a site look good, but when I saw Comic Sans as a choice, I wanted to scream.

                      AHerb,

The source code that is generated when you change the value of the Rich Text editor is generated by the browser. While we do control some of the html code that is generated (when you insert an image, create a table, etc), for the most part, changes made via the editor are subject to however the browser decides to implement the contentEditble HTML attribute. When you hit enter, Chrome may put an empty div tag, FireFox may put just a br, and IE may put a br inside a div (those may or may not be the real values they actually input, I'm just giving a generic example). All three examples should display the same when rendered. Since there are many ways to reach the same "look", browser creators will often do whatever seems correct in their own eyes, even if... <div><br /></div> makes... less sense than either <div></div> or <br /> by itself. If the generated code is a concern, the best alternative is always to create it the way you prefer using the source code mode, or you could use some combination of both. Again, the code the browser generates should look the same when displayed, it just may get there using a different path than another browser.

                        Good Catch Leslie,

I filed a bug on that z-index issue (menu behind the other elements).

                        You... hate Comic Sans?

We have plans to add the ability to edit the list of fonts available, probably through some sort of batch list that you can add/delete fonts that will be available in that list on every editor that supports rich text (as well as some other cool stuff with available css classes, snippets, etc). The version released with the Beta is version 1 (just the basics, and a way for people like you to voice their opinions so we can make it better!). That list of fonts was put in there as... a kind of placeholder based on some "web safe" fonts that were available in the browsers we support. So... it is on the list of things to add/implement.

As I had mentioned at the conference, I'd like to have the ability to use the fonts from the available CSS classes used in the design. If I have my way, it would ONLY be fonts from the available CSS classes.

I played with something in a WordPress package the other day that offered the ability to upload fonts and use them in the layout. Now that would be some cool stuff.

Uploading fonts would be pretty slick. I'll make a note of it to look into.
