    Sequential Order Numbers - always?

This has likely been asked and answered in the past - but looking to make sure I have up to date info.
Are order numbers _always_ sequential, or can they still be lost based on a dropped basket or out of order based on the timing of a conversion?
    Thanks.

Order numbers are NOT always sequential, for the reasons you mentioned. Order numbers are assigned when customers enter checkout: specifically, as part of the ORDR action processing when they go from the OCST page to OUSL or OSEL. If a customer abandons the session during checkout, the order number will never show up in a completed order. If a customer enters checkout, but then goes back to the shopping pages to put more things in their basket, it's possible for someone else with a higher order number to complete a purchase first.

-- or at least, that's my understanding. I'm not in-house, of course, but I haven't read anything that would conflict with this.

        Thanks Kent, Rick,
That was my understanding as well, but was curious if something had changed.
