I offer an upsell to every customer (a choice of free gift). I'm setting up a gift certificate and I don't want to offer the free gift upsell to customers who are only ordering the gift certificate. Is there a way to do this?

An "Excluded By" function would be really nice for the upsell feature, but I don't think it is there yet. There is a workaround
Upsell > Click on the Upsell Offer > Click on Required Products > Ctrl-A > Assign Selected > Manually Unassign Gift Certificate Product Codes
This would work if you are only trying to exclude to offer to customers who are ONLY buying gift certificates. However, if a customer purchases a gift certificate along with any other non gift certificate product, they will still see the offer.

I had thought about that option. It's not a bad idea. As long as they're purchasing something physical (anything other than a gift cert), we don't mind sending the free gift.
