We are a book publisher. We want to offer a book for pre-publication
sale, to ship in about 2 months. Is there some way to trigger a note
on the invoice that the item will not ship until, say, July 1?
Something like back-ordered notices would work, I guess. But how do I
set that up without having the inventory system say the book is "out
of stock" or something?

I upgraded my main system, an iMac G5. Works as advertised!
Spotlight will index your drives right away and that takes some time.
Other than Spotlight, and the new Safari (which I enhance with the
invaluable "SAFT"), I'm not seeing any huge day-to-day productivity
leaps.
My LaCie LightScribe 1.0 app (for burning labels directly on
CDs/DVDs) stopped working, but other than that, no problems.
I would review the 12+ page Tiger report at www.macintouch.com before
jumping into it. There are several reports of weirdness with specific
apps--usually system enhancers--and some FileMaker Pro 7 issues.

That is my concern with this and the reason I put this question out to
the group. There is no validation going on with these addresses. The
AA, AE, AP are not listed as states in MIVA Merchant. It seems like if
that is what the USPS says are to be used, that should be a basic part
of the install. Then there should be a validation similar to the ZIP
codes to check that a standard entry is made for the City and Country
fields.

You would think one of the first things the military would teach new
recruits (aside from how to not get shot) would be how to address your mail.
Unfortunately we get a lot of military people who don't.

The way most of my customers do it (and the way that seems to work the best)
is to put APO/FPO as the city, select Outside US as the state, enter
AA/AE/AP in the other state/province field, and then select US as the
country.
That gets everything you need to properly ship the order and correctly
calculates shipping as going to a US address.
Of course, there are a few customers who enter NY or some such as the state
since that's where their mail is processed through but that doesn't cause
much of a problem since address verification can easily fix that based on
the zip. The only problem I ever see is the occasional one who enters Iraq
or some other country where he's stationed since that does naturally through
off shipping. I don't get too many of those though.

In real world, how are you seeing the service member addressing their
customer info? AA, AE, AP are not listed in the state codes in miva
merchant. Are you seeing them put it all on one line? What are they
putting for country, etc?

Here is an example of one of our recent customers:
Address Line 1 - CMR 123
Address Line 2 - Box 1234
City - AP
State - AE
Zip - 12345
Country - US
He also gave us a lovely international phone number. I think its Germany. If I remember correctly
the country code for Germany is 49.
PS. We used VC Other Page Templates to use the "Company" box for "Address Line 2"

We added AA, AE and AP to the state code list. APO or FPO goes in the City
field, then the correct APO is selected from the state list.

I've tried to subscribe to the list about a half hour ago, but haven't
gotten my confirmation email. Would expect that to be somewhat
automated. Anything I need to know?
(Or are they using MIVA to manage their mail list too....)

>=20
I've upgraded. If you backup using Retrospect, make sure you update
that program, because there is an additional layer of information in
files, it seems, called metadata. Older Retrospects will back it up, but
won't restore it.=20
Other than that, I'm running BBEdit, Adobe CS, MailSmith,
Netfinder, Firefox and DragThing all the time, and they seem
to work OK (Well Illustrator is flakey, but it's always been
flaky)
I only upgraded this past weekend, so I'm not sure what other
programs may have been affected by the upgrade.
Ive run some other things without problem. TimePallet,
iCal, Delicious Library (there's an update for it, plus a
dashboard widget), Portfolio 6, but all without dipping
deeply into them, so there may be sore spots I don't know
about.
But the backup system you have should be first in importance,
I would say.
