Remove some PROD screen items
Chris,
It sounds like you have the old (maybe free) version of OpenUI. I just
upgraded mine a few weeks ago and was amazed at all the new features. Well
worth the money for the upgrade. The newer version does have two menus in
the left side frame.
Good luck,
Russell

Well.... perhaps I should explain I haven't updated OpenUI in ages,
(maybe a year) and I can't tell you what the version is until someone
tells me how to find it. So this may
have something to do with not having two menus. If running Open UI
always had two menus, then yes, there may be something wrong. On
the other hand, I'm also administering the store via Firefox on a
Mac.

On the PROD page, you mean? It's not essential they are displayed
on the PLST page, at least, I think they aren't necessary. So I can
live without them there. (Client might feel differently about this,
though.)
I realize I may have to buy some sort of template for
category, product and product list page, but I was sort of
hoping not to go that route.

I know I'm not much good at this stuff, but my menus are on the left as
I face the screen. Or maybe they got moved with the 4.2x version?
Towards the bottom as you just sign on is a "twisty" labeled Stores.
Unless you are running Simple Administration..?

If you're running the OpenUI, then you should have two menus. If you
don't, or if you still can't find the link, email me offlist with login
info and I'll see if your store is corrupt.
There's no way to only display pricing for some items without a module.

Check again, and make sure you're in the bottom menu (not the OpenUI
menu at the top).
Click the arrow next to stores, then on your store's link. There IS a
Product Detail link. If there isn't then what version are you running?
Because it should be there.
As for retaining pricing - are you talking about displaying a price if
there is one, but not if the base product price is zero? Not without a
module like:

In your admin menu, click your store's named link and then on the right
click on Product Detail. There you will see what you can control for
being displayed. Same for the Product List layout - click the Product
List link.

It shouldn't, if your host has their or your SSL configured correctly.
There is no reason you should get an error when uploading images in
either secure of non-secure admin mode.

There are several menus in the store admin area, it's certainly
conceivable that I've not figured out which one Pamela was speaking
of.
I think she is speaking of the links on the right of the page after you
click on the left menu item "Stores" and then on your particular Store.
When that happens, the right screen refreshes, and there is an array of
links at the top of the right page:
Identification | Owner | Settings | Layout | Maintenance Mode
Order Minimums | Customer Fields | State Based Sales Tax | Messages | Pagin=
ation
Colors | Fonts | Images | Head/Foot: Global | Head/Foot: Customer
Head/Foot: Screen | Head/Foot: Checkout | Buttons | Page Sections | ProdLis=
t Layout
Search Layout | RelatedProd Layout | Head/Body Tags | Meta-Tags | SEO Setti=
ngs
Navigation Bar | <Select One> | Security | Tokens | User Objects
Configuration | Compatibility | Module Hooks | Debug | Customer Accounts=20
When you click the ProdList Layout, you can select whether or not
to display price, weight, product code, etc.
Which is all a moot point at this time, as I've taken all you folks
advice and was able to create something that may work for my
client--I'll just have to see what he says about it.

Well.... perhaps I should explain I haven't updated OpenUI in ages,
(maybe a year) and I can't tell you what the version is until someone
tells me how to find it. So this may
have something to do with not having two menus. If running Open UI=20
always had two menus, then yes, there may be something wrong. On
the other hand, I'm also administering the store via Firefox on a

Er? what? :-) There is no "bottom menu" on the right side frame.
There is a link array of 5 by 7 links at the top of the right side
frame.=20

version 4.18

I'm asking if I can display prices for only some of the items on
the product list page. That is, can I display prices for the items
the store sells, and not display the (unknown) prices for the items
that the store only displays (people are being directed to other sites
to buy those items). I want to use the store as a sort of advertising
venue that sells some items, but shows other items by other vendors.
But I'd like them as products so that I can organize them in groups,
maintain an organized list on the product page, and eventually
begin using the search page (currently disabled)

There seems to be no such link on the right side.
There is a Product List Layout, a Search Layout, a Related Product layout.
That's it for the layout links

That link is there, and I can remove display of price--for all items
in the store. (tried it, works fine, thanks)=20
Is there a way to retain price for items sold in
the store, not just displayed in the store?

RE: uploading product images
I'd like to remove these items belowfrom _some_ products
displayed in a store, but not sold in the store.
I've removed "buy one now" and "add to cart buttons"
using Vic's directions to turn on tracking and set
inventory to 0, while still allowing display. That
works fine, buttons are gone.
Now, I would like to remove, on the PROD and
PLST screens, the price of the items (set to 0.00).
Can I hide it some way?
And, on the PROD screen, I'd like to remove
reference to weight and how many are currently
in basket, and the Code of the product.
Can this be accomplished without buying templates?
The store is 4.18, OpenUI.
