Paypal notification of payment email subject

Since the 16th, the emails I've gotten from paypal now use the following
    subject line:

    "Notification of Payment Recieved"

    Previously the subject line was:

"Item #xxxx: itemcode - Notification of Payment Recieved from (
    [email protected] )

Anyone else get this change? I preferred the original method as it allowed
me to match orders to payments easily

Yeah for me it changed on Feb 13, thats the last time I saw it with the item
#, two hours later it was the current way. No worries though, its still
collected. I also get a merchant email confirm, to get the order info.

Paypal notification of payment email subject

Problems is, since the change I've had 3 orders where payment was received
but no order was recorded in admin. With the previous email subject, it was
easier for me to see the paypal payment email and the merchant notification
email and match them based on the subject line.

You need to go back to your IPN setting at paypal.com and see what you
put. You also need to update your merchant as 4.16 was notorious for
having problems with off site payment modules. That said, if you setup
the IPN correctly it should work fine.

i have stopped getting all of my papal orders in my
miva orders list (using the stock papal interface with
          miva 4.16).

i went ahead and bought bill's papal module, but it
has not seemed to make a difference (not a ding on the
module, i just think something weird is goin' on on
          paypal's side)

huge pain cuz now i have to check my paypal site and
then ping the customer asking them what they
          purchased, and for their address.

          any insight would be great.

              #7
Paypal notification of payment email subject

From what I have been able to figure out from my PayPal payment
notifications, the "Item #xxxx: itemcode" in the subject line is missing for
all customers that are using PayPal without becoming a PayPal member which
was a new option PayPal introduced early last year.

Every PayPal payment notification I have that is missing the "Item #xxxx:
itemcode" in the subject shows the following at the top of the PayPal
Transaction Detail page for that payment: (The sender of this payment is
Unregistered). Unregistered means they have no PayPal account, but instead
paid with a credit card without signing up as a PayPal member.

Here's the real kicker: What PayPal doesn't tell anyone (until you have a
customer that can't place a large order or make many smaller orders totaling
more than $500) is that if you pay without becoming a member, there is a
credit card lifetime maximum limit of $500. Therefore when the customer has
spent a total of $500 on several purchases or tries to make a purchase that
will put them over their remaining balance limit, PayPal denies their credit
card with no explanation of why. The customer thinks they have a problem
with their credit card, but it is actually this lifetime limit.

You would think if PayPal is trying to force people to sign up as members to
make payments totally more than $500, that they would give the person an
error message telling them they has to become a member to make the purchase,
but they don't. They just deny the card with no reason. I had to call on
behalf of a customer to find out what was the problem, because the customers
bank had stated there was nothing wrong with the credit card or the card
limits. PayPal support informed me of this lifetime limit and said next time
the customer should call themselves. WOW what great support!

Sorry for the rant, but I think this is good information for everyone to
know. Now back to the original subject.

I actually sent PayPal and email asking them this very question and I never
got a real response, just this dribble:

i have stopped getting all of my papal orders in my miva orders list (using
the stock papal interface with miva 4.16).

i went ahead and bought bill's papal module, but it has not seemed to make a
difference (not a ding on the module, i just think something weird is goin'
              on on paypal's side)

huge pain cuz now i have to check my paypal site and then ping the customer
asking them what they purchased, and for their address.

              any insight would be great.

              mahalo

I was under the impression they changed it on all emails. Every email I
have received since Feb 15 has been the "Notification of Payment
Received" subject. Have you received one since Feb 15 that has
                something different?

Paypal notification of payment email subject

Actually the last notification I received with "Item #xxxx: itemcode" in the
subject was on Feb. 16, 2005.

I did not realize they had changed it AGAIN...

What I stated in my email about the subject line was correct until Feb. 17,
2005 (for me) when I received my first Payment from a "Verified PayPal
member" that did not include the "Item #xxxx: itemcode" in the subject line.
Bill is correct, now all of my PayPal notification subject lines contain no
order info since Feb. 17, 2005.

I wish they would stop changing these notifications put the order number
back in the subject for all IPN transactions and listen to some seller
                  feedback for a change.

                  Sorry for the confusion,

Paypal notification of payment email subject

I just got a PayPal notification last night for an auction purchase. The
                    subject said:

"Item # - Notification of an Instant Payment Received from xxxxxxxx"

Yep, it said "Item #" but included no actual item number. Very bizarre.
Whatever PayPal is doing, it's very creative and different. I wish they'd do a
little testing though. Preferably prior to implementing the changes.

                    Tom
