    Single-name credit cards?

Gateways do not check the name.

Only the first 3-4 digits of the numerical address and the zip code if
you have AVS on...and the CC# for matching the checksum, whether its
valid, and non-expired. Also CVV2 code if turned on.

What happens with business credit cards that only have a single name?
We're using Merchant 4.12 and Authorize.Net. Do they even verify the
name? I just put in my first name and "LLC" for the first and last
names into the Miva screen, with a correct CC# and Expiration Date. The
transaction went through just fine. Of course, we still have Auth.Net
    in test mode.

Credit card companies do not check names. The ONLY checks done on credit
cards are the numerical portion of the street address (not even the street
name), the ZIP code, and the CVV2 code. That's it. You can type in
anything you want for the name, even change the street name, city, state,
    etc.

The funny thing about that is if you call a CC company, try to get any information without
providing the ACTUAL name on the card...I keep forgetting my middle initial appears on
        several old cards...

Yes, but they validate it against their own database to make sure you are
the cardholder. Merchants only validate through payment gateways and those
only look at numbers (street number, ZIP code, CVV2 code) - that's it. :-|
