Payflow Link takes you off the site like PayPal and
Payflow Pro works behind the scenes like a traditional
gateway. Payflow Link can be unreliable, involves more
steps, is harder to troubleshoot and won't make up for
the extra $15/month Pro costs. :-)

I'd say run simple validation through your merchant
account until you have enough orders that it's annoying
and then go straight to Pro.

Payflow Pro is a fully featured payment gateway and completes transactions on
your site, without redirecting traffic (your shoppers) outside of your domain.
Payflow Link works much like PayPal - during checkout it sends your visitors to
a 3rd party web site (Verisign) that looks nothing like your own site, and that
is where they complete the transaction.
Both are supported by Merchant out of the box. The Link option looks much less
professional and has much more potential for problems if the transaction is
completed on Verisign's servers but not sent back to your store - you would end
up with an order on Verisign end but not saved in your own Merchant storefront.
This is because Miva's implementation of Payflow Link does not send a
silent-post back to the store when the transaction is completed, and basically
forces your visitors to properly "return" to your store to save the order.
Definitely not a good solution.
Go with the Payflow Pro gateway - much more dependable, works better, and you
don't have to worry about some 3rd party site that looks nothing like your
regular store.

Are you sure people haven't bailed out when they got
to the Verisign screen?
