Is American Express worth the discount rate they charge? Would love to
hear experiences with them before paying their ransom. Has anyone used
them for Merchant Services (over and above just accepting their =
    cards).?
    Thanks
    Brenda

    American Express User Question

I just signed up with them last week. Based on my sales, I qualify for
the flat $5/month. In other words, I don't pay any discount, just the
$5/month flat fee. If you goto www.americanexpress.com/merchant you'll
    see mention of this program.
One thing that concerns me was over the phone I was asked how would I
like to receive notification about chargeback disputes and I said via
email would be fine. I then got a printed letter that said Amex would
debit my account right away if I had a chargeback AND I would not be
able to dispute it at all. I'm gonna have to call them back to verify
    this new policy.

From reading what others wrote, Amex is worth it and the orders are
generally larger in size. You have to look at it this way, is the 3.5%
discount not worth the extra sales you'll get?

        American Express User Question

I have found it very beneficial. Also, under $500/mo is a
flat fee of $5.00 There have been several times when my discount
rate approached 1% because my Amex totals were right at $500.
That and when a visa customer doesn't look squeaky clean on AVS,
the charge posts but at a 4% rate...

Speaking of which, I am with Linkpoint/CardService is the
4% thing universal? Anything I can do to prevent it as often as
        possible w/o cutting into sales?

        Sincerely,
        Philip Doolittle

Not sure what you mean by the 4%
I believe if avs comes out not matching, there's slight surcharge. Check
with your merchant bank to make sure
