    Web TV

    Hello list,

Does anyone out there in Miva Land have any tips for optimising a Merchant
site for Web TV or, come to that, whether it is actually worth the effort?

Well, I wouldn't exactly design the whole store around WebTV, but going
light on the Javascript, keeping font sizes fairly large, and not using
complex or pixel-width tables which could interfere with WebTV's formatting
ought to make things much easier on WebTV users. I don't think style sheets
work with WebTV either, but I'm not sure on that.

I don't know if it's worth the effort to design with WebTV compatibility as
a very high priority, but according to their web site, they do support
Javascript and a bit of CSS. You could check your site's log files to see
if you get a lot of hits from WebTV browsers. If this helps, in the last
two months, only 0.22% of my site's users have been on WebTV.

      Here's a link.

You can download their WebTV Viewer there as well so you can test your site
on your own computer without a WebTV box.

I was asked to look into adapting a site for WebTV a while back, and I of
course asked why. The reason was that it was for a retirement community that
had 50% of their users were using WebTV. So if your market it is the over 70
        crowd, you might need it.

The best way is to check it out by downloading WebTV viewer
and see how your store looks go to:
