    coupon & gift certificate charges

It depends on how the Coupon module works in your Miva Merchant store. For
example, when an order is passed over from Miva merchant to QuickBooks,
QuickBooks rebuilds the invoice with the products from the order. So, if the
order has 2 products, Product A for $5, Product B for $10, shipping for $5,
and tax for $5, it will pull each of those items individually from the Item
list and make an invoice out of it. For the coupon to be applied, it would
have to be entered on the Miva merchant order as a line item discount. I
believe there are some modules that do this. The coupon shows up similar to
a product on the Miva Merchant order, and is associated a negative charge.
QuickBooks would see that as an item and include it when it rebuilds the
    invoice.

    Thanks.

      coupon & gift certificate charges

      Hi Jimmy,

In most cases, coupons are applied as a basket charge, not a
"product"- with a specific basket charge "type" such as "COUPON"
instead of "SHIPPING" or "TAX". I'm unclear if the answer below
covers this common practice- it sounds as if the discount may
actually have to be a product line-item, not a basketcharge
line-item? Or will a negative basketcharge suffice?

      Related:
      --------
Are price groups handled properly in Synchro? In other words,
if instead, a "coupon" (or other action) caused the customer
to be in a price group that gave them a 10% discount across
the board, would the invoice in QB properly reflect the discounted
prices from the price groups? (assuming the prices in the order
and invoice were properly reduced and shown during checkout)

      And further:
      ------------
Let's say "discounts" are applied as a negative-priced attribute,
though the actual attribute code never exists in the Merchant
attributes database. For example, one of our membership-based
products (the Membership SuperMod) allows one to show the actual
discount in the basket, rather than simply adjusting the prices.
This is really handy to "show" users throughout checkout (and
after via the invoice) the retail price they would have paid,
then the actual discount per-product that they received.

Assuming a customer & product are in a 15% price group, the item
is placed in the basket at full price, then a "phantom" attribute
is tacked onto the item with -15% as the attribute price. I say
"phantom" since the attribute "code" isn't part of the main
attributes database, though it appears properly in the basket and
order. Will the proper price be reflected in Synchro?

        coupon & gift certificate charges

        Hi James,

The answer I gave basically says that a coupon module would have to be
adding their discount to the basket as a product line item with a negative
charge in order for Miva Synchro to apply it to the invoice in QuickBooks.
Miva Synchro will only acknowledge SHIPPING and TAX basket charges.

For Price Groups, when the customer goes through checkout, provided they
have logged in before adding the product to their basket, the discounted
price is already displayed in the basket. This discounted price will be
carried on through the order and into QuickBooks after synchronization.

I would have to say that yes, the discounted price with the "phantom"
attribute would show up properly on the invoice in QuickBooks. However, I
wouldn't mind testing that module out to make sure.

        Thanks.

          coupon & gift certificate charges

          Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that's what you said,
          just wanted to be sure.

          Jimmy says:
          > ... I wouldn't mind testing that module out to make sure.

I'll be glad to send you a copy. Actually, all of our products can
be used free on Miva Mia, just send a note to [email protected].
On second thought- you guys sell it in Warehouse, so put yourself
in a 100% off price group and buy one for free. :)

          Jimmy Says:
          >Miva Synchro will only acknowledge SHIPPING and TAX basket charges.

As far as basket charges that are not SHIPPING or TAX charges, I
think just about every vendor (and customer?) would agree that all
basketcharges should be treated equaly. It's a *very* common method
of issuing a discount when not using price groups or product-based
          discounts in the basket.

We use basket charges for processing store credits (Customer Credit
module), issuing (non-product based) membership charges (Membership
SuperMod), and possibly elsewhere; I know just about vendor that has
a coupon module issues basketcharges for discounts at checkout, etc.
Not handling them properly in Synchro is, well... undesirable. :)

          Jimmy says:
          >For Price Groups, when the customer goes through checkout, provided they
          >have logged in before adding the product to their basket, the discounted
          >price is already displayed in the basket.

Good. For what it's worth, the part about logging in before adding a
product to the basket doesn't apply to stores with our Membership SuperMod.
It will recalculate the basket upon login, so a customer always gets the
proper prices according to their price groups.

          cheers,
          james
