    Facets and Colossus

I am replacing the Iron and Wool Readytheme with Colossus. To use facets, Do I also need to install the facet module(s) or does the Colossus Ready theme already include facets ? The Colossus ready theme description states " This theme includes faceting on both search and category pages ". I never installed the facet module to use with the iron and wool ready theme... so do I need to install the standard facet and combo facet modules to use facets with Colossus?
    Thanks,
    Thank you,
    Terri

Getting this out of the way, If sticking with a Theme for the new look and feel, my suggestion, wait until Colossus 2.0(?). The estimate I last heard was 3rd quarter-ish. The new version should evolve much as Shadows has evolved. A new version of Shadows was recently announced.

Answer to the question: There are two parts, the module, and the template code. I don't recall having to install the Facet module in the store, but it's possible you may need to in an existing store. The Facet components are easily assigned items to the store/pages if the Facet items are not automatically assigned when you apply the Colossus/Shadows frameworks. This component's usage requires template code. The default template code is built-in to Colossus/Shadows. Therefore, once you build the Facet data in Admin, you'll get the default rendering.

SO I did need to install the facet module ... to unlock the attribute facets. It appears the code is built into colossus BUT I am having an unbelievably difficult time editing products - I'm trying to edit attributes to make them more uniform so I don't have four different facets for color for example. And while I am editing those I'm editing/updating product descriptions, images, etc.. I"m lucky I don't have 50k products... I "only" a few hundred... BUT the editing is not saving... I've spent days editing the same product over and over and over again, only to find the facets are working right, and the even the product descriptions are not getting saved. And when they are saved, the old version comes back up later and is then resaved inadvertently when another area is edited and updated. I've cleared my browser cache, etc. I don't know what else to do .. some facets are working as intended, others not. I 've been going around in circles with this for days. Most recently I've noticed the add to cart button on the product page has completely disappeared for two products I've edited. It is there on the products in the category..... any clue what would make that disappear? And I've since noticed that products I've edited, and new products added do not have add to cart button on prod page. Products that have been there, untouched, still have the add to cart button on their prod page.

        Hi Terri,

The only thing that comes to mind about the add to cart button disappearing would be inventory. If the main product inventory is "out", the button will not display.

ty... I have figured out with the recent updates, if the track inventory checkbox is checked, and there are attribute variants using inventory... it conflicts and product inventory doesn't show correctly and in some cases the add to cart button disappears. It's seems to be an either or thing...which I don't think was always the case with earlier versions. In any event, the add to cart is working properly now.

On another note, I'm have a dog of a time getting attribute facets to work properly.. For some attributes I don't use a template... for example, color options are different from product to product... but the products all have the same attribute code "color:" The attribute facet "color" however is not showing all the options/products... facets shouldn't be this difficult.

          Thank you,

Another facet question: Why do facet codes look like this?

attribute-12097a4e1abc6f284b5a125edb6b0296 how am I supposed to know what attribute facet this is ?

            Thank you,

                  Hi Terri,

If I recall correctly we dynamically rename the facet code to a generic value like attribute-xxxxxxx if the attribute code is not unique or too long.

seems like some of them were for products there are not active. not sure about not unique or too long... I've gone through and deleted unactive products, that seems to have helped whittle them down ... this site has been with miva for a long time, so lots of baggage I'm sure.
