    Product Attributes

Was it intended to not have a label show for the product attributes (select input) and have the prompt text be inside the select box? I can see it would save space but for some products the default option is set so you dont see the prompt text and the option showing may have no meaning.

for example we offer a grip upgrade but have the defaullt option set to "No Thanks" when you are on the product page you just see a select box with no label and "No Thanks" inside.

I can change it around but just trying to figure out if this is a bug or if it was intended to be this way to save space?

    Thanks

    Mark

Look at this product and the middle attribute. There is no meaning to "No Thanks" without a label saying Upgrade Grip? (which is the first item in the drop down and not a label). Was it intended for options like this to not set a default so the box show "Upgrade Grip" then they are forced to make a selection?

Is there a product in the levels demo store that has an attribute so I can see if the way my dev store handles attribute prompts is the intended way? I did see on the check out pages select inputs like the credit card exp date actually put the prompt text inside the select drop down using small text at the top of the box. May be a better option for all select dropdowns.

        Thanks

Here is a product with an attribute: http://levels-theme.mivamerchantdev....esk-chair.html

The way that theme was designed is it has the attribute label inside the select drop down. This can easily be changed by modifying the attribute template on the product page.

Thanks Brennan. I just wanted to verify that it was what was intended before I switched it around. Many of our options only work with the label inside if you we dont set the default value which would force the customer to make a selection. Not saying that is good or bad just that they would need to change.

The label inside the dropdown is a cool feature and works well in the demo Levels store, but how do we get this to function properly? On my dev store we can add an item to the cart by not changing the attribute from the label, even though it is a required attribute. So the item essentially gets added to the basket without choosing a size because the label was picked.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Mark and Matt, I had posted the same issue on Miva Merchant 9.00052 Bug Reports "Attribute Templates type Drop-Down List base prompt (e.g.: Size, etc...) is not displayed after "Generate Variants" is performed." (Post #40)
                    Thank you, Bill Davis

On your product page, under the Attribute Machine settings, do you have "Preload - Drop-Down Lists Contain Select One" set as the value for "Initial Attribute State"?

No, I had "Drop-Down Lists Do Not Contain Select One" - but I just changed it and the issue is still there. Is there template code that needs to be adjusted when that change is made?

No template code changes would be needed, however, do you have that particular attribute set to be required?

That was the problem - the client setup all this so I didn't even think to check it. When the error pops up "All Required Options have not been selected. Please review the following options:" all that is next to that is a dot. Can that be corrected to be more user friendly?
