    Combination Facets in Shadows

I created a Combination Facet for Year|Make|Model and added it to the CTGY header. At first I thought that the Combo Facet only appeared on the final category page that lists products, but it's actually on every category page, including the parent categories.

Does that mean that the Combo Facet has to be manually placed in the Header of each lowest level category page that lists products?

Also ... the Combo Facet was automatically placed in the left sidebar below the category tree:

How can I remove it from the left sidebar?

If I keep it, how can I place it above the category tree?

And how can I make each facet (ie Year, Make, Model) a dropdown? Right now, it just lists all the individual years straight down the sidebar.

    Thank you
    Ron

    Hi Ron,

The output on all pages is so you can refine your product results before you even get to them. If you want to remove or relocate the facets in the sidebar, either delete or move "<mvt:item name="facets" />" from User Interface -> Templates -> CTGY -> Details. As for modifying the layout, you would have to customize the facet code in User Interface -> Global Settings -> Facet Layout.

      Hi Matt.
Thank you for the feedback. I moved the Combination Facet from the CTGY header over to the left sidebar and placed it above the regular Facets and the Category Tree.

But for some reason, under the Filters (ie regular facets), it's showing the list of years for the Year facet, which was created in the Combination Facet. If I select a Year from that list, then it brings up the Make facet.

The only facets I created was from within the Combination Facet. So why are they also showing up under the regular Facet? And is there a way to not show Combination Facets in the regular Facets/Filters section?

      Here is a screenshot:

      Thanks,

        Hi Ron,

Vehicle fitmet will also act as filters like any other filters.

          Thanks, Matt.

I may be missing something, but it doesn't seem to make much sense to have both in the sidebar. We create a Combination Facet in a separate section in Miva, so shouldn't the Combination Facet be separate from the regular facets?

I wouldn't generally recommend putting the combination facet item in the sidebar. The combination facets are still regular facets, they have additional functionality. If you click one of the year facets, the list should adjust and fill with the appropriate items.

This is from the Combination Facets doc:

"Add Combination Facet Drop Downs to User Interface
One of the most powerful parts to combination facets in Miva, is we automatically provide you with all the customer facing User Interface for the drop down menus. You can easily add the menu to any page, or globally."

It then provides the item tag which we can place to show the Combination Facet dropdown menu.

So, if you don't recommend the sidebar, where do you recommend we place the Combination Facet item, which provides the dropdown menu?

And is there a way to make the Combination Facets appear as dropdowns in the left sidebar? We can't have 20 individual years running down the sidebar, as shown in the image above.

                Hi Ron,

If you only want the combination facet item to appear on category pages, then I would recommend adding it to the header section of the category page so it will appear on all category pages. As for the making the facets for them be drop-downs in the sidebar, that would require customization of the facet layout code. Unfortunately, this is not something I have done. Perhaps someone else on the forums has or you could contact support for assistance with it.

                  Thanks, Matt.
I'll need to play around with it and see what works best.
