    Modifications to Shadows theme

We are in the process of migrating from WooCommerce store built in WordPress to Miva. We love the theme we are currently using and looking to migrate it to Miva by modifying the default
Shadow theme that comes with Miva installation.

Wondering if our html and code changes made to the Shadow theme will be overwritten if an update from Miva is pushed to the theme. Or does Miva offer a child theme like WordPress where
we can make our changes without modifying the parent theme.

    Please advise and thank you

I can answer the question about "child themes" - nope Miva hasn't yet grabbed onto that concept. Updating themes still needs to be done manually so you won't have to worry about your work being overwritten. With the use of Branches, things should go a little smoother.

      Hi Leslie,

Thanks for replying. Can you please explain a little more about Branches and if there are any resources on this.

      Appreciate it

        1) Regardless of 'theme' Miva will let you produce a web site to match any design. The trick is how much effort it would take to construct it. If the design is anything more than a changing a few items on the page, say going from three colums to two four in a category display, its going to take some time. For example, we've created a site using a 'Bootstrap 4.0' framework that probably took 30 - 40 hours to complete (working on a 5.0 version ATM).

        2) Updates. Miva updates do not modify template code, cause almost all sites contain some modification. If template change are needed, you follow the Change This To This instructions provided with the update. For experianced developers, this is not very difficult. For a store owner...nope.

FWIW, the Miva Docs on Branches may not quite explain them how I would. In a nutshell, Branches enable you to create a copy of your current look & feel and then apply a new ReadyTheme (Framework) or even create a new look and feel without the need for a dev site. You can view the Branch and even share a link to the Branch without the need to hide it behind a Password Protected directory. The referenced link will also explain some other "heavy lifting" that Branches can do but maybe there is another resource somewhere else that breaks down the simplicity of it. I'll dig around for you.
