Moving the Gift Certificate redeem form

I'd like to be able to move the location of the Sebenza Gift Certificate redeem form. The issue I'm having is it's placement is limited to outside the page form tags - either before or after them. Putting it after the form also puts is after the page continue button, which can cause confusion. I'd like to be able to locate it after the shipment selection and before the payment selection. The location seems logical to me but can't be done because of the restrictions of the module.

I tried creating the form sans the <form> tags but that gave me the infamous form Fatal Error

Error Code: MER-DBE-OPN-00002
Description: Unable to open store

Scott had mentioned

it would require some JavaScript that would change the Screen and Action based on which button is pushed... the redeem button or the continue button.

I guess my question is, has anyone done this?

You could also use absolute positioning to place the form so that it "appears" to be within the regular page form.
