    Marriott Hotel and Marina

I wanted to take a minute to promote our arrangement with the Marriott for the Conference this year.

We have an amazing price of $165 a night for our guests at the conference. Last year the rates were not special for our attendees and this created some frustration for our guests. We listened to your feedback and are providing you with an amazing deal this year. We worked with the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina to come up with a rate that our Conference attendees could work with. Normally these room rates are around $300 a night and remember you are staying downtown, on the San Diego Bay, and right next to Gaslamp District.

I know that some of you are holding off on making reservations, but our special rates will only be held until August 8th. After that the price will be what the general public is paying. Also, the weekends before and after are nearly booked up, so if you are thinking you might stay longer, I would encourage you to make your reservations now while there are still rooms available outside of the conference dates.

We are all very excited about the conference and I know that I am personally looking forward to meeting many of you for the first time this year. We?ll see you in August!

Click to book this rate online or call 1-800-228-9290 and ask for the MIVA Small Business rate of $165.00 per night.

Here are a few other resources for those not (yet) familiar with sunny San Diego:

And if you'd like to stay at a hotel RIGHT ON a beautiful beach, look no further than Hotel Del Coronado (http://www.hoteldel.com). It's within 10-15 minutes from the conference hotel so you won't be far.

The Marriott is quite nice. When I did the site tour before selecting the venue, they showed us all over the place. There's a Starbucks right downstairs from all the Conference proceedings! The rooms are very nice, as well, and much more plush than last year's at the Catamaran. And it's a steal at only $165 a night.

The location couldn't be better. Right on the San Diego Bay and steps away from all the action in the famous Gaslamp Quarter. It's all right there.

And as an added bonus, the rooms MIVA have are all in the same tower as all the Conference activities. You can just hop in the elevator down to the floor and you're right there in all the action.

Plus, this makes stumbling back to your room after the opening night Cocktail Mixer that much easier. We all know how much those crazy Mivites LOVE to drink... ;)

          Hi guys,

I just got the room drop for this past week from the hotel, and the rooms in our block are being reserved pretty quickly.

If you want to get a room at the Marriott Marina, make your reservations ASAP!

I got my room reserverd today, I hope it's nice, whenever I stay somewhere other than Vegas I always end up checking out wishing it had been more like the rooms in Vegas. :) It's too bad consumers let hotels start getting away with the $10/night internet fees over the past few years, now that everyone has it, the $10/night charge seems to have become industry standard.

Yeah, many hotels in Vegas offer free internet access, but some still charge $10.99/day for it. Or, if you stay at MGM Grand, it's "only" $1500/night. Yes, you read that right... they don't have in-room internet access so if you really really want it, they have to have a telco guy come out to wire a dedicated T1 line to your room. They sure charge a nice premium for it, don't they?

Just another reason to get a high-speed internet account with your cell phone provider so you can have unlimited access to the internet anywhere you are, and at speeds that surpass most hotels' hugely oversaturated data lines shared between several hundred to several thousand rooms... Case in point, I'm sitting at a hotel in Vegas right now (HostingCon 2006 conference) surfing on my laptop connected to my Verizon phone with wireless broadband service, pushing just a hair over 2mbps right now. At just $60/month, it pays for itself in no time at all - highly recommended for those who travel or want to stay in touch without being tied to their home or office PCs.

The hotel I am at today is $11.99.

BTW - Did James and Miva setup a booth at hostingcon? I was going to wander down to the Mirage to say 'hi", but don't have a ticket for the exhibits.

Yup, they were here. John, William, James and Q.

Bill - the exhibit floor was only $25, or if you contacted us beforehand, we had a bunch of free passes available.

Woohoo!! A little unrelated to the conference itself, but - for those who travel and use wireless broadband on their phones to connect to the internet on the road (or connect them to their laptops as wireless modems)... Verizon just announced that they are upgrading EVDO service to 3.1Mbps download and 1.8Mbps upload. That's about 50% faster than current speeds.

Hey, what happened to James?! He was there, I swear, we've run into him on his way to the e-comm session he was doing! :-)

BTW, aren't you glad to be back in San Diego? Vegas was around 119-120 degrees F every day we were there. Ugh. Hot.

James and Gina were both there! James had a very successful talk and he and Gina met with a lot of people.

I just listed the three guys who were there in addition to James and Gina... sorry!

As for the weather, although it was hot there, it's muggy in SD and frankly I can handle 120 degrees... but humidity is awful. Of course I lived in Saudi Arabia for several years when I was younger, so my thermostat may be permanently skewed towards hot dry weather :)
