We really need a functioning Google Wallet module.
The biggest beef with the current Google Wallet module is that it sends through ALL Shipping options through regardless if there are rule set or not, and the module gives no options to turn this off or set its own rules. In addition to this, my most recent trials with making it work also show all shipping options for the value of $0.00.
Bottom line is that in its current form, the module is useless for any store that charges for shipping and/or has to set shipping rules.
The easiest and fastest short-term fix to this would be to add an admin checkbox to the module that will NOT send shipping options to Google at all with the product information. By default, Google uses carrier-calculated rates set by the Merchant in their Google Wallet account: http://support.google.com/checkout/s...n&answer=42909
By doing this, vendors can set their shipping rules within Google and skip the problems with Miva integration entirely if necessary.
This is more than a payment processing issue. This is a long-term marketing issue.
Here's why.
Right now, there are big things happening at Google. Right now, Google is investing heavily into their Google Wallet services. The rebranding from "Checkout" to "Wallet" is only the beginning of this.
First of all, they are likely developing a physical card tied to your Google Wallet account to tie all of your financial accounts into one: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2411861,00.asp
Huge numbers of people are going to be using their Google account to make ANY kind of purchase. Wallet is already used by all Android customers for app purchases in the Google Play store.
Secondly, and this is the big one for online vendors, Google Wallet is a prominent and sortable feature when comparing products in its Product Listings feature. In some markets, I imagine this is probably rivaling Paypal.
As of September 2012, Google now charges per click for these Product Listings. Since online vendors now pay for the listings, Google shopping feeds are more competitive than ever. Vendors integrated with Google Wallet get these benefits in Product Listings and search results:
1) Customers purchasing with their Google account are prompted by Google to review the vendor. These reviews appear in Google Shopping and influence purchase decisions. (Some of our competitors with Google Wallet already have hundreds of reviews, but since we do not participate in this right now we have few, if any.)
2) Google Wallet icons appear next to product results of vendors who provide it to make it easier and more trustworthy for customers to purchase. "Google Wallet" is also now a sortable option when doing shopping comparisons.
With a growing Google Wallet customer base and paid advertising models, vendors who are not playing ball with Google Wallet are likely to fall behind their competition.
It is frustrating to see other e-commerce platforms with turnkey tools for adding Google Wallet to sites. (Volusion, Magento, BigCommerce for example have fast integration and numerous options for customization.) When will Miva catch up with this trend and provide a robust Google Wallet Payment module?
In my opinion having this feature has (and will) become a high priority for anyone selling competitive products online.
Regards,
Adam
