Since htmlscript/openui/miva2/3.x/4.x/5.5 days we have shared on the miva forums a work around for image uploading that involved the upload image upload feature on the products or category admins to put up images that we used in static html on our storefront or in headers and footers... It was really convenient. We didn't have to give ftp/sftp access to staff who frankly might mess things up fubar style if they had it. It was also quick for a storefront or header/footer or extra page html image change. People didn't have to teach or use another piece of software like an ftp program. It also means making pci compliance easier too. The less type of access into a server, the better!
With the advent of image machine and it's utilities, it is now possible to delete all unreferenced images out of the graphics folder. This is actually a great clean up tool. however for those of us that have stored images in that folder (via the above method) there are images that are unreferenced that would get deleted by this tool.
Ideally, we would have a tool in the admin for images not related to products/categories/buttons etc. It would have the image upload button, for images not related to products, categories, buttons, etc. It would keep a list and display a little thumbnail so we know what it is and allow us to have a text field so if we want we can have a reminder of what it is. It should also have a delete button and also display the date of upload. That way these images will be 'referenced' (not get deleted by the image management tool) and also be managed by us manually.
