I talked to miva support today about it and they suggested that I post it on the forum. This has been posted in the long long original dream features thread, before dream features became it's own forum. I remember somewhere in the forums that it was 'slated for a future release'. Well, in order to make it pop up on everyone's horizon. I"m posting it as it's own thread here in the dream features forum.
Many of us want the ability to COPY a product, all it's settings, all it's images, all it's everything. Many of us have very similar items that we just need to change a few fields for and having to reenter all the same data 10 times or more in a row is really really frustrating and boring.
I envision an additional button on the bottom of a product screen that says copy. I think it would be best located in the center bottom, away from the delete button (thank you for moving that!), but not right next to the update button either. There is room for it centered down there.
It would simply copy the entire product and all it's associated settings, custom fields, etc. almost everything except active/inactive.
It would be set to inactive, so it won't show in the store until we want to turn it on.
for naming...
The copy process could do one of two things.
1. would append -copy to the product code, so we can find it easily and then we can edit it.
OR
2. the copy would require us to insert a new product code at the time of copying.(that way we wouldn't have a conflict if we wanted to copy an item multiple times before we edited the copies.
Now that would be very very nice!
I hope we get a ton of comments on this thread so Miva knows how bad we want it.
