Miva Merchant Wishlist
For me, my primary “wishes” for changes in Miva are in the Admin:
Fix Time-wasters
Place Next, Prev, & Update buttons at top of screen -- always in view! Too much scrolling!
Alphabetical sorting of Items on Page Template’s Items tab instead of whatever the order is. (How much time is wasted and attention sucked from the job at hand visually scanning for text that has no apparent order?)
Customizable Product, Category, etc. Admin pages of most often used features. So much time spent clicking on tabs to get to the information I typically use.
Make Quick Find sticky or default to XXXX (a user option). As it is, the user must ALWAYS make a selection. If it was sticky, or had some default, it would save time.
The short of it is that the Admin wastes enormous amounts of the user’s time. Worse, it interrupts the thought process. The above suggestions would greatly improve the usability of the admin, speed up work, and reduce frustration.
Left Nav
Ability to show/hide the left navigation. It’s often wasted screen real-estate and it must update every time you save data on a screen, slowing down work.
Configurable left nav. Ability to rearrange most often used nav links, and hide (or at least move downward), the useless ones (I have no affiliates, e.g.).
More line spacing in the left nav
Why is it “Manage Orders” but not “Manage Customers”? How about “Orders” and “Customers”?
Some useful grouping of Left-Nav links. It seems utterly random.
Product and Category Admin Screens
Please add "Update and Next" (and Prev) buttons (at top of screen of course)
Add a “Track Product” display/edit checkbox on Products List page (Current Stock is shown, why not the Track Product switch?)
Saved Views for the Products List and Category List screen
Page Template Editing
Put the page code on all page editing screens (e.g., Product List Layout)
Is: “Edit Page: Customer Create”
Should be: “Edit Page: Customer Create (ACAD)”
All Admin
Rename the admin page titles starting with name of admin screen so they can be found easier in crowded browser tabs. Starting them all with “Miva Merchant Administration” is useless.
Detect the browser window dims and enlarge the editable field to the max so that the nav and buttons at the bottom are just visible (maximize usage of real-estate). (But it would be best if the buttons were at the top).
Apply changes to multiple products. Bulk product field editing
Favorite Pages grouped (aliased) for quick access (similar to the configurable left nav).
Expanded Shortcut bar (or get rid of it and implement a customizable left nav).
Ability to duplicate a Page template carrying over all the settings (Items, custom fields, in the Product Listing, etc.) (Please?)
Ability to duplicate a Product or a Category.
Download link for exported files (ala Template Data Feed)
Manage Orders screen
Buttons ask to be clicked on more than underlined text does. "Close" on the order view screen in the admin should be a button instead of underlined text. The tendency is to click on the button "Delete this Order."
Bug
Bug -- please fix: Category Product List Layout and Related Product List Layout will not work if body or color Items are turned off, even when there is no use of those Items in the SMT code.
Store Functionality
Finally, in terms of store functionality, I would like to see the following:
Custom Store fields
Real dimensional weight calculations
Dream Feature
The above is my “wishlist.” Now here’s my dream feature:
A pop-out IDE. Proper SMT syntax checking & highlighting, line numbering, monospaced fonts, code-folding, powerful find-and-replace, etc. And one should be able to update the changes without the IDE window closing or refreshing.
The current text area for Page content is horrible for editing. You cannot use tabs. The typeface is not monospaced. There is no highlighting. There are no line numbers, code-folding, etc. This means I must select all and copy the code, switch to a proper code editor, make the changes, switch back to the browser, paste, and update. A proper IDE would make development so much easier. And to prevent it wasting valuable screen real-estate, it should pop out into a new window.
