    Export Inventory Variants

Guess I need to stomp my foot on this one, considering I have a site that has a million or so variants and I just had to manually go through just a 102 of them to make temporary price changes that in 2 days, I'll have to go back through and change again.

I would like to see the ability to export inventory variants and not only be able to export them but to selectively export them.

YES! I need this too, so that I can handle single pieces and cases of those pieces. Each case could have a varying amount.

Just for price? This is really easy to do from the batch edit screen?
Use advanced search to get the results on the batch edit (for example product code contains or begins with etc.)
      Select them all.
Then just hit the csv export button.
It will export any field (including custom fields) you have set to display on the batch edit screen.

Maybe I'm missing exactly what you are looking for...

Yes, it's very easy to edit the variant product with this method. But when you start creating products that need to use the Variant Price/Cost/Weight: Specific Values - this method cannot be employed. If the Specific Values could appear on the Inventory Variants tab for the product and be editable there, that would be huge. And much like what you & I are doing at the batch edit screen.

I do see where you want this added now which makes more sense and could be interesting
Obviously you know price/cost/weight are still not a problem for the batch edit screen...

I want to dog pile on this even more, stomp my foot, have a temper tantrum or what ever it takes to get this noticed. I have a number of stores that use the Inventory Variants and I have a couple of stores that want to be moved off of VikingCoders Inventory Manager (which has an export feature). But the VikingCoders Inventory Manager only lets you adjust the product levels. This is great if all products have the same price. Using the VikingCoders Inventory Manager is not without pains. It does not create the attributes, that has to be done with EmporiumPlus Import Attributes and Options From Flat File. It too has an Export feature. One VikingCoders file I have, has 4 fields Product Code, Attribute Code, Count, Notification Levels. I had another store that used the Note field (which is a great tidbit to have). With both modules have the ability to export, it made it a bit easier to figure out because I have an example for the store I am working with. Bill had the right idea:
            Headstart
If your store already has attributes and options associated with your products, use the export module, attrexpt.mvc, to create a flat file in the proper format. This can also serve as a backup (archive) copy of your attributes and options. The default name of the export file is attribex.dat. Keep a copy off-line along with your other backup copies of data.
Looking through the documentation on the EmporiumPlus Attribute and Options Import - Export from Flat Files module, it might handle the Inventory Variant inventory levels:
The 13th field in the attribute lines is "inventory". It is included in Merchant version PR7 which is a January 2010 streaming update.
Think I'm going to go play with the EmporiumPlus Attribute and Options Import - Export from Flat Files module in a store that has "lots" of Inventory Variants. I'll post what I find.

Follow-up on my wishful thinking that the EmporiumPlus Attribute and Options Import - Export from Flat Files module might be what we needed, the Inventory field is just the one that is checked off when creating the attribute. That "I" that lets the system know to use the Inventory Variants.

So we are back to needing something that allows us to export the Inventory Variants and I suspect I've been asking for this since the feature was first introduced back in 2010...

Hey Mark, I found a thread that we should jump on. Maybe we can come up with on alternate ways to handle this or we can even come up with a better understanding of the Add/Import Product Variants from CSV. http://www.miva.com/forums/forum/onl...m-csv-question

There is XML provisioning for that if you're into that. Will save you time. You could make an excel sheet that created the XML by concatinating colums then copy that XML into a file and upload it. I can not give you the answers or code. But i'm saying it is possible.

What Colin said...is going to be the only 'sane' way of accomplishing this.
