Miva should support adjusting transaction authorized amount before capturing payments

Miva provides the ability to do pre-authorization and delayed capture for orders, but does not provide the ability to adjust the amount to be captured to a different (lesser) amount. It does provide the ability to do an additional charge on the customers credit card, but this only supports the case where the charge should be greater than the authorized amount. This works in the case where the customer wants to add items to their order after initial checkout, but does not support the case where the customer wants to remove items from their order after checkout, or the case where the available quantity is less than the ordered quantity for a particular product. It used to be acceptable to capture the full amount and then refund the excess payment, but because Paypal recently changed their policies where they no longer refund fees on refunded payments, this is no longer an acceptable solution. Paypal express and Paypal manager DO support the ability to adjust the authorized amount if the payment is captured from those sites instead of within Miva, but if the payment is captured outside of Miva, Miva does not have the ability to sync the capture status or net captured amount with the outside sites, so Miva status is forever incorrect and makes a bookkeeping nightmare to keep track of payment status across multiple (3) sites.

flighthelmet I want to make sure I understand the use case here. Someone makes a purchase for $100, and then you only want to capture $75 against that authorization?

Why would not just doing a partial capture in this case work, where you only capture the $75? Miva does support partial captures.
