FTP login: What Port to use?

My isp is at&t. Website is hosted by MIVA - formally Hostasaurus. What Port should I use for ftp connection in FileZilla?

Ideally, set Filezilla to make an SSH connection on port 22. It should figure that out for you automatically if you just put in the host, user, pass and port 22. The first time you connect in that manner it may ask you to confirm and save the host's SSH key.

You shouldn't need to specify a port in Filezilla for standard ftp connections.

If you are using the quick connect, and you don't specify 22, it will default to regular unencrypted FTP which is undesirable. If you're using a bookmarked host, then correct, as long as you choose SSH then specifying the port is redundant and not needed unless the host is running SSH on a non-default port.

I should have been clearer: Choose TLS in the FTP connection setting in Filezilla, it's secure.

I don't believe that will work for him. Most of our servers do not support SSL encrypted FTP, just regular FTP or file transfer over SSH. In the Filezilla Site Manager, that would require setting the drop down box for "Protocol" to "SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol" which will then remove the "Encryption" box you'd see if you had left the protocol set to FTP.

Actually, my login problem had nothing to do with the Port.

I had forgotten that when Hostasaurus moved to MIVA it was necessary for me to change my password. Because I was trying to login using my old password it did not work, but did and works fine with the new or current password.

              Thanks everyone.
