    Google Chrome

Why should I switch, I've been using MSexploder and my son uses was using fireox, so I started using it instead, I am happy with it, now he switched to Chrome, should I switch? so far I have not been impressed.

    Re: Google Chrome

For me, it is missing too many features to become my main browser. I use it as a secondary browser at work to listen to Pandora because it doesn't seem to have the memory leak issues that Firefox does. The browser is really quick and is fairly easy to use, but I just don't think it's on the same level as Firefox yet.

I know I will switch on day, but hate to learn new software, why don't they make things that will last forever

No one says you have to switch. If Firefox can continue to improve their performance, I'll stay. I will say that I have seen some concept UIs of Firefox and if they go that route I will be less likely to stay. They want to turn Firefox into Chrome and I'm happy with how things are now.

There is a compelling reason get off IE. It doesn't support CSS 3 while all the other majors do. IE does not support true XHTML while all the others do. It has the lowest compliancy for CSS 2 of all browsers. It's also the slowest browser out there. IE is mired in the past and development seems inept.

Chrome isn't ready for prime time (it's still in beta), but Firefox, Safari and Opera are all excellent.

            Re: Google Chrome

I've read some of the technical info about Chrome. It's designed to be very robust. Each window or tab runs in a separate process, so there's much less chance for one bad page to mess up the others. And I like the minimalist UI that saves real estate on the screen.

Google's an interesting operation. I like a lot of the things they're doing; on the other hand, I sometimes get the feeling that they're trying to take over the world and become the next Microsoft. Also, I have a real problem with the way they caved in to China, and some other countries I think, by agreeing to restrict access to data that the dictators don't want their people to see. (I presume you all know that, in China, if you type "Tiananmen Square" into the Search box, all all you get is bland tour-guide material.)

              Re: Google Chrome

I have firebug installed on my FireFox browser which slows it down to a crawl so I only use FireFox when programming. I use Chrome for browsing and there are a lot of things I hate about Chrome! It gets hung up on random pages every once in a while (pages it runs most of time without any problem). Moving tabs is ultra sensitive and I am constantly creating new windows out of my tabs by mistake. There is no offline mode (without using an add-on)! You cannot use the Google Toolbar (which is important to me because I store my bookmarks on it). haha but it still beats IE and Safari.

Chrome is light and runs javascript heavy pages very well (most of the time) but as Steve said, this browser is not ready for prime time.

                Re: Google Chrome

I disagree I think chrome is prime time. Chrome serves a purpose. It's not meant to be the display interface for your operating system framework like ie is.

Chrome is supposed to be fast, lightweight, supposed to contain what happens just like Kent said. The way it's designed you shouldn't have things like activex or java or plugins installing crap onto your computer. It's supposed to isolate the browser and computer from each other. so it's much less likely to crash your pc. If a page has bad javascript on it, you can kill just that page and keep everything else in chrome running. And it's 'safer' to use.

I use it all the time. I love it.

That said, I use all four major browsers every day.

There is no black and white issue here. Use the tool that is right for the job you are doing.

Abe.. there isn't a huge learning curve to using a browser. in fact, you'd probalby like chrome. there is less to know, less to learn. it only has 1 input box. you don't need to know how to or where to or what to... it's really the easiest of all the browsers to use.

Silencing dissent goes on all over the world. I'd worry less about China and turn my attention to this country.

Fair point, Bill; and indeed, I have concerns about this country, which we probably shouldn't get into lest we start a flame war :) . But my main point was about Google, not China. Aren't they making enough profits without helping dictators oppress their people?
