Miva Development Site (as a free feature of hosting)

    Hi All,

I'm looking for Miva hosting service that offers a free post-production development site -- (like dev.mivastoredomainname.com) who also offers 24x7 telephone tech support.

My question is: How do hosting providers (like Hostasaurus) offer a subdomained development site without having to charge an additional monthly hosting fee?

    Thanks,
    Yvonne

Our licensing permits that at no additional fee (from us) to the host

      Yavonne,

You might think about how valuable it would be to have it versus not having it.
You'll keep people out of it, so it will be a really low bandwidth site. The $18.50 level of miva hosting.. for example with hostasaurus would be sufficient.

Are you looking for full blown miva help or hosting tech support?

Those are two very different animals.

Hostasaurus will respond 24/7 to critical support emails. If your miva site were down, they'd get it back up.
They'll help some with miva coding issues.. but more from a technical standpoint, not for teaching purposes. They are in the hosting business.

You might want to hire a developer.. better yet come to the next miva conference. you'll get TONS of ideas, meet miva experts and get to pick their brains. It's the cheapest education I've ever gotten.

Having gone through several sites from nothing to some success. I can tell you not to worry about the $30 hosting expense for a second site. If you can't affort that yet. go the miva mia route on your desktop. Instead worry about your shipping expenses and how to streamline your own time spent working on daily operations. You'll more than make up for it dollarwise there and the peace of mind will be way worth it.
Remember every hour you work is an expense to you. Whether you actually pay yourself in the beginning or not.

Basically what Rick said; Miva doesn't charge us to have a second copy of your site so we don't charge you. We tend to only charge for things that cost us something, so development sites have no charge.

Hi Yvonne - we provide our Miva customers with free development sites at no charge. Typically the development sites are used to work on upgrading a V4 store to V5.5. The subdomain dev.domain.com will point to a subdirectory within the production website and pull from there. As Rick Wilson points out Miva does not charge us hosts for development licenses.

Does it have to be a development store? Or could you have german.mydomain.com, french.mydomain.com, english.mydomain.com and do it with one merchant license?

Re: Miva Development Site (as a free feature of hosting)

The spirit of the change is to allow 1 subdomain along with the primary domain per license. Our intention was twofold:

              1. Allow for the license to be used with V4 and V5.5 (as long as that license is eligible for updates on our recurring model)

              2. Allow for a development domain license on the same domain name.

You could certainly use it to have www.domain.com and spanish.domain.com but you only get 1 extra subdomain.
              Thanks,

So folks don't need to buy a second store license as long as they make the second store a subdomain of the first.

The reason I ask is all my modules are tied to the domain license. If it is the same domain license, they can use the module in as many stores that the domain (miva merchant mall) license is allowing.

Re: Miva Development Site (as a free feature of hosting)

Currently our licensing allows for a license to be installed twice per domain. It can be either www.domain.com/Merchant2/... and www.domain.com/mm5/...

                  or

                  www.domain.com and subdomain.domain.com

However you can only install it twice and if we find abuse of the intent we may limit it to V4 and 5.5 or some forced development setup.
                  Thanks,
