    SEO guru wanted

    Hi folks --

Lately, a lot of my clients are asking for SEO enhancements to their stores. I'm more of a programmer than a marketing guy; I can drive the bus anywhere, but I need someone else to help navigate :^) . I'm looking for someone who has expertise in this area, able to look over a store and recommend specific things to do with the content, meta-tags, etc. This could include work on non-store pages such as blogs. Please drop me a line by email (not private message), and tell me a little about your experience and your rates.

    Thanks --

    Re: SEO guru wanted

Modern "SEO" is no longer about stuffing targeted terms within urls, meta tags and content, it's about marketing/advertising, plain and simple. While there are still some on-site factors that need to be considered, most of the time they are not what people expect, which is why so many waste endless time, resources and money on the above mentioned strategies/techniques.

Don't take this the wrong way Kent, but since your short link module has grown in popularity, which is why I suspect you are getting a lot of "SEO" consulting requests, there has been a resurgence in users wanting to switch to extreme url structures, stuffed with targeted terms. I have fielded a number of these requests via the Sebenza support desk as well, advising users not to do it.

Bottom line, having a url structure stuffed with targeted terms will not provide your site/store with any ranking advantage over your competitors in the search engine results. You are wasting your time and will most likely create larger issues in the end.

Hi Dan, thanks for the info. But I'm not talking specifically about links. I'm looking for someone who can advise on all aspects of SEO. It's something I haven't really studied, just picked up tidbits of knowledge along the way. I'd like to have someone available with more expertise.

If someone knows of some good tutorials or other how-to information on-line, I don't mind doing some reading ...

      Thanks --

Understand, just throwing it out there to try and prevent someone from going down that well beaten path, just to find out it was all for nothing.

A good resource is SEOmoz.org, though with all things "SEO", you have to take things through a filter and not at 100% face value.
