I just watched "Setting Up An Order Custom Field". It was a nice example of how to put a memo on the order. I would like to allow my customers to put a short text message on the OPAY (Payment method or somewhere on the check-out) and in Merchant email confirmation page.
First question: Is custom field for Orders the right tool for this?
Second: Can you give me An example of code? How to get the text input. Can I use local variable to retrieve and write the text on the mail.
An the last question: Where is the text stored anyway?

custom orders fields and custom basket field are what you would use to achieve this functionality.

The data gets stored in Miva's Database similar to other custom fields.

For my purposes, Miva is used for online ticketing for a music venue. I would like to add a field to the billing info for "Ticket Recipient" so when someone buys a ticket for a friend, that friend's name will be on the order.

I've clicked the checkbox for Custom Fields, but I get three new tabs: Custom Category Fields, Custom Product Fields and Custom Customer Fields. Are any of these of use to me, or am I missing something?

I would first recommend you update your software to the latest version. There should be a update button on the left menu at the bottom. This will give you access to the new custom fields which has what you need.

You would need to create a custom Order Field the the additional field you need. Can then add some template code to your checkout process to save that field with the order. The links referenced above should get you started.

I have noticed that Custom Field data collected on the OCST page is NOT showing up on the CUSTOM FIELDS tab when I use Quick Find to locate an Order. However, when I use the "Manage Orders" link in the left-hand navigation, and then click on an Order number, the custom field data DOES appear on the Custom Field tab for that order.

Why won't Custom Field data show when I use Quick Find to view an order? When I use Quick Find to view an order the Custom Fields are empty.

Your Quick Find must be still mapped to the legacy order processing section. Custom Orders Fields are only setup to display in the Manage Order.

The Legacy Order Processing section does not get new features as we add them to the core software. It is there purely for "legacy" purposes.

The quick find button in the header is configurable so you should be able to map it to use Manage Orders.

I think I misunderstood your question, no you can't alter the "QuickFind" box. That problem goes away though in Version 9 entirely.

I assumed you meant the links next to it.

It looks like I was incorrect. You can change those mapping, but it looks like there isn't a direct one to the Manage Orders screen. Newer version of the software automatically have this button mapped correctly. However if you upgraded from an older version the View Orders button will always go to Legacy Order processing.

As Rick mentioned, Version 9 solves this issue.
