Google Crawler question in regards to new non-active products.

I will apologize in advance if this question was already asked and as well as being a bit of a novice with Miva.

If I was to create a new product, and I have not yet activated the product, is it possible for Google's (or any other search engine) Crawler to index this products, or only products that are activated?

    Thank you,

    Charles

Re: Google Crawler question in regards to new non-active products.

    Hi Charles,

Inactive products are not available on the front end of the site, so search engines cannot index them. Likewise, if an indexed, active product is then made inactive, Google will throw a 404 warning for that page and eventually erase the index.

Depending on how you set your inventory up it is possible to have the item as active, set the product inventory to zero and choose to not hide out of stock. This will make it viewable on the site but not available for purchase.

Another alternative is to place all products in an availability group, and make you or your team the only ones in that group. That way, now one see's the products by you.
