Setting a landing page for new users

Hello,

I'd like to have users redirected onto a particular page after they initially signup. The sitewide landing page and the regular login behavior should stay the same, I just want to be able have a certain experience for users who have just signed up.

Is there a way to do that?

The obvious method is to write a cookie with a specific value after signup, and then delete the cookie once they have hit the landing page. Check for the cookie - if there go to landing page, if not go to storefront.
