Applying Frameworks in a Dev Branch and customized Page Names

I may have found a "bug". I have a store that customized a number of Page Names. I had applied the Shadows Framework in the Dev Branch. I didn't think anything about it. A few days later, the store owner reported that some of the Page Names had reverted back to the original Page Names. Then I noticed that SFNT SEO Page Title had changed. When I fixed it in one Branch, it changed in the other Branches. I knew that applying the Shadows Framework would add some Categories but I was stunned to see it change Page Names and custom fields.

    Hi Leslie -

I agree with you there is some ambiguity here. We'll have to look and see how we can improve this experience.

But the core issue stems from the fact that Pages, Pages Names, Page Titles, Meta Tags, Etc are shared across all branches. Only the page templates themselves are versioned and unique to each branch. So if you change a page name or add a page title it will apply to all branches which is not currently clear in the current UI.

Brennan - this can have serious ramifications. If applying a new framework in a dev environment is going to impact what are SEO critical items in the production environment this really needs to be addressed as a top priority fix. What are the workarounds going to be? Can these Page Name changes be downloaded and saved? For the impacted site, I was offered a roll-back from backup. That's not a good option.

I did some testing on this and it does appear the Page Name and Page title do get overwritten when you apply the framework. Meta Tags are not included in the framework so those should never change. I'll file a bug on our end to see if we can make the Page Title Branch Specific as that is directly displayed on the front end.

We were affected by this for quite a while before we noticed what was going on.

And it can have an impact on SEO if you've done work in these fields.

Was it recently? Google has been a real pip even before this latest algorithm update.

A couple of weeks ago we realized what was going on for a while.
